Laurie's Story
After graduating from Wm. Paterson ('83) and meeting James, my husband and love of my life, at my p/t job, Sears while attending college, we married ('92). Shortly after that, we inherited property which led us to migrate to South Jersey; first to Sicklerville, then to Burlington and currently, Cinnaminson. We absolutely love Cinnaminson. It's a small town with lots of options for families to be an active part of the community.
After a long and winding road trying to get the experience I needed to land a f/t contracted teaching position, I joined the Burlington Twp. teaching staff ('95). I've been with this school district ever since, although I've taught in the computer lab for 7 years, a 4th grade classroom for 2 years and most recently, basic skills every since.
Currently, we are active members of our community and church, singing in the choir and volunteering for numerous other little things along the way. With three kids and the activities to go with them, there aren't that many down times anymore.
I'm not sure how my classmates remember me, hopefully, friendly and dedicated to my beliefs. I was probably seen as an extreme conservative. (The wildest thing I ever did in school was carry my Bible to classes with me.) I'm no...Expand for more
t so sure that would be the word to describe me today. Interestingly enough, I am in contact with no one from those days probably because when I figured out who I really am, I didn't have much in common with the people I ended up hanging around with in HHS. If I had it to do over again, it would be very interesting which directions I might lean towards.
Now a days, I blow off steam with a nice bottle of wine and a nice dinner with James. Dancing isn't out of the questions, either. We LOVE to dance! We don't usually get the chance unless we're at an organized party with a DJ or a band (that usually only happens twice a year). We are, what I call, impromptu dancers. We take a lot of the moves you see on Dancing with the Stars and mix them up. We took formal dance lessons at a college night class once as a "date night" sort of thing, but we kept wanting to break form. We just get bored with the standard repetitions. Forget line dances. We get a kick out of doing our own thing and messing with everyone else's heads. It can really upset some of those hard-line line dancers. :-)
Hopefully, this gives you a little more insight on the person I've become at 42. I still try to walk closely with God, but have a bit more fun along the way.
