Laurie's Story
Life
A lot of you will remember me as Laurie Turner, if you recall me at all. More people know me as "Melissa Foxx" which is my Radio Name. I've been known to go mostly by my on-air monicker for the past decade or so.
After several years of trying to get a college degree, hold down a job and deal with whatever else life decided to hand me, I finally settled down in Orlando, Florida.
You see, I've been in radio since late September of 1981! I started out in cable TV in Nantucket, Mass. at Channel 3 TV with Steve Gallagher. Then, I went to school in West Virginia, moved to Pittsburgh (better nightlife)...stayed there for eight years. I worked for several adult rock stations and on a top 40 music formats. nd Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
Moved my ass to O-town in '92. Started with the top rocker 96.5; got fired after a year for flashing my boobs at an event. Got picked up by the new rock station in town, 101.1 WJRR, soon after.
Hung out for a while, then headed to Miami, which I hated. I left radio for about two years to run 'Melissa's House of Burgers'... it was fun, and I learned tons of people and managerial skills, but, it was still BK... you know what I mean?
Came back to Orlando and was hired back by 101.1...then the Howard Stern gig was handed to me on a silver platter. (Not really, but it sure sounded good!)
So, for the past 7 years I've been hosting my own Hot Talk radio show, training interns to take over my job, and programming computers to do the same.
