Leann's Story
I started school at Nisley Elementary in Grand Junction, CO. I went there till Jan of my 5th grade, then we moved to Westminster CO and I attended Shaw Heights Elementary. We lived there a short time, then moved to Ogden, UT where I attended Mound Fort Elementary for 6th grade, then Mound Fort Jr High, and Ben Lomond High School.
Although I was only 10 when we moved from Grand Junction, I still consider it my "home town", even though I wasn't born there. I remember so many people from then, don't know if any of them remember me (or my brothers and sister, who also went to school there.)
I attended Weber State University, got a double major in Elementary Education and Psychology with a minor in English.
Have worked in volunteer management since I graduated from WSU. Worked at city, county, state and fed level. My dad got me involved with volunteering when I was in 8th grade, on a Help Line, I've been volunteering ever since. With my mom and dad as role models from all the volunteeriin...Expand for more
g they did in classrooms and as coaches/team mother for my brothers, it was a natural thing to continue doing.
When I had my children, I got my family involved in volunteering as well. This led to a memorable experience, I was selected to be a Torch Bearer for the 2002 Olympics, and my daughter was chosen to be a Support Runner, and after some phone calls and letters to the Coca Cola sponsors explaining we had both been selected, she got to be MY support runner. It was so fun to be carrying the torch and having my whole family out there cheering for us - it was an extremely memorable experience for all of us, a great experience to share.
I was blessed with the two smartest chidren in the world, a son and a daughter. I have 4 grandchildren, 2 girls and 2 boys, who are the smartest kids in the world (smile.)
Right now I work for Alpine Hospice as Volunteer Administrator, very fulfilling, very draining at times.
What to do with the rest of my life? Haven't figured that one out yet....
