Leita's Story

Life Well, it's only been two years since I was in high school, but of course so much has changed. I'm living in East Tennessee, I'm a junior at East Tennessee State University. Big difference from Las Vegas, huh? Most definately. Johnson City isn't really much of a city, but I survive. My mom is here with me, though thankfully I'm not actually living with her. Her younger sister and her husband also live here. One of the most important things that has changed is that I'm in a relationship (I know, the perpetually single me). My boyfriend Nathan and I have been together for almost a year and a halfnow. I think he's a keeper. Hey, even my mom likes him, that's got to be good! Speaking of relationships my Mom actually flew right by me in that department. She getting married again in October and I'll be her maid of honor. She's at 100 mph and me? I'm just struggling to keep within the same dimenstion. School I was such a geek in school. I admit it. Until 8th grade, I always had my nose stuck in a book and in high school it was still most of the time. I don't regret it though. I made friendships that will last a lifetime and found a talent I didn't know I had. When my parents announced to me the summer before 6th grade that I was going to be playing the clarinet instead of violin at my new school, I threw a hissy fit. I was furious. Now, almost 10 years later, I can't imagine my life without music. I played at three different schools, each of which taught me such important things that have made me the player I am today and I am so grateful. Band was always a second family to me. Obviously band was my favorite class. My least favorite class was, is and always will be math of any kind. I enjoyed english, especially Brit Lit. I had only one boyfriend in high school, my sophomore year, which ended when I moved to Las Vegas. I don't regret that though. I wasn't involved in the drama, and was able to take an outsiders view when it came to consoling my friends. I went to prom with one of my best friends, we stayed at the dance about the ...Expand for more
whole time, danced not just the slow songs, ate ice cream and played video games after and got home at a decent time to go to church the next morning. And unlike some others, we remember the whole night and wouldn't trade it for the world. Even from across the country I still support my two high schools as much as I can. So Go Warriors (Brethren Christian HS) and Go Crusaders (Faith Lutheran HS)!!!!!!!!! My favorite memories are definetly band tours (2 years in San Francisco and of course Hawaii), lunches in the science sector, jazz band mornings, and of course graduation. College Ahhhh, junior year. College doesn't rock quite so much anymore. The teachers get more and more demanding and school becomes more like real life each day (bleh). I'm still at East Tennessee State University, but I'm planning on transfering next year. Not too far away, but some place with a bigger music program. This is the second year my roomie Kristen and I are living together, but she'll be graduating in December. I'm still living on campus, but my room is much better than last year. We have our own "suite" this year, with our own bathroom and kitchen (Wow we're so grown up). I'm heading up the school's pep group, BucWild again this year. It's become a part of my job with the Pirate Club, the athletic donor group I've worked for since I moved here. The classes I'm taking this semester are Music Theory 2, Aural Skills 2, Class Voice, Piano 3, Educational Psychology, Exceptional Learners, Clarinet Choir, Wind Ensemble, and Chamber Winds, plus clarinet studio class and my lesson. I'm swamped! On the important parts, my fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi was initiated as the Lambda Mu chapter on May 7th, 2005. I am one of the 10 founding members and one of three girls now (I used to be the only one). We are currently putting through our Gamma class, consisting of 4 members, including 2 more girls! Thank goodness! I love my guys though, just they can be....uh, guys. So I finally changed my major to music education, as you can probably tell by my class schedule.
