Leo's Story
I was in Mrs. Ouchi's sixth grade class from Septemper 1965 thru June 1966. I came to the school in the fifth grade,I can't remember much of the fifth grade. I do remember much of Mrs. Ouchi's class. I was the only African American in the class. I have our class picture, I think I can remember some of my classmates. Josephine,Amy,Teresa are in the first row.Joslyn, second row. Next to me on the third row Terry? Top row,Eugene, second from Mrs. Ouchi. Many of the faces are very familiar,I'm not sure if I am correct in the classmates I have named. I have often wondered about my sixth grade classmates,it was a special time in my life. ving there, there where challenges, but overall it was a great time in my life. We lived in Kaneohe for awhile, then Kalihi Valley, then we settled in Waipahu. We live on a water crest farm in Waipahu owned by the Watanabe family. Then we moved directly behind August Ahrenns. There was a sugar cane road between our house and the school. The big trucks loaded with sugar cane would rumble by at night making a lot of noise hauling their cane to the cane processing plant down by our little league ballpark. If anyone remembers me
I would love to talk to you. I wonder if Mrs. Ouchi is around these days. We came back to California in June of 1966. My dad retired in 1967, I haven't returned to Hawaii,I have always wanted to,maybe I will soon.
