Leslie's Story

Life HI friends! It's been quite awhile since our graduation; can't believe time has gone by so quickly! My life has been very interesting. After some college, I went into the USArmy as a bandsperson, and while stationed in Europe, met my (now ex) husband. We were married for 18 years and have two wonderful sons. We traveled around the world, until fate threw us an interesting curve ball and we went from being a military family, back to civilian life. So, I am now in California. As for my boys, interestingly, they were both born with Autism. Though a challenge, I am happy that these angels were given to us to raise and love. Joe and Dan are both active members of the Burbank community and have been a source of inspiration to many, many people. The highlight(s) thus far have been their Bar Mitzvahs. Danny (my youngest, age 20 ) graduated from Bourroughs High School in Burbank (in the Special Ed. class with some mainstreaming) and Joe (age 22) has graduated (his Cullmination ceremony) from Tobinworld in Glendale (a Special Ed. school). Yes, I had the kleenex and camera ready! I am SO proud of my sons! I am living in Southern California, and am doing some part time stagehand work for the television studios, and live concerts, as time permits. I have also done some companion care for a nursing agency, and yes--though my music is on the back burner, I still play Flute and Piano from time to time. I have been blessed with my wonderful life partner, and could not ask for a finer man--and friend--to be a part of my life. So, that is all for now. Be well! :-) Military I had alot of fun in the US ARMY! After the fun of boot camp in the wilds of New Jers...Expand for more
ey (Fort Dix) from Oct-Dec '78, I went on to the US Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. I was stationed there from Jan. '79-June '79. From there I went to my first assignment: Fort Lee, Virginia. I was there from June '79-November '81. Had a great time, made some great chums, and had fun touring around. The biggest thrill of my life was to be a part of President Reagan's first Inaugural Parade. It truly made me proud to be an American--and I am not a flag waver. And, I freely admit that as my unit passed the reviewing stand, tears came to my eyes while playing my piccolo...and I was not alone. Many of my fellow musicians quietly admitted the same thing! Fast forward to my move to West Germany in December of 1981. Did roughly the same thing; touring...only this time it was in Germany (and keep in mind the political situation at that point of time in history). I also was fortunate enough to tour France, Lichtenstein, and England, where my band did yearly concerts with the Manchester Police Band. And, when President Reagan came to West Berlin, my band was one of those that were honored to play for him. There is so much else to say....but for now I will leave things as they are. Suffice to say, I met my husband overseas; he too was in the Army, a communications officer. We married in 1983 in NY, I got out of the service, and had our two sons at Fort Carson Army Hospital, at Fort Carson, Colorado. We traveled quite a bit, and to make a long story short, we came back to California (his home state) in 1992. The 18 years I had with him were good--and though the marriage ended, we managed to remain friends...and...life goes on. More later.
