Leslie's Story
2014: Retired from IBM at the first of the year and I have not been bored for a single minute since. So far, this is pretty great!
Life up to 2009
University of Michigan '76 BS, Botany. A few years in NYC & NJ as a Horticultural Technician (watering plants in office buildings, like the World Trade Center), then back to school to learn a trade I could live on - computers. Now I have been with IBM since 1989. Sometimes I work at home, but most Friday and Sunday nights you can find me in an airport somewhere. When I am home, I use my botany and horticulture training out in the yard. Most of my family lives nearb...Expand for more
y, in the Detroit area, so I see them all regularly. I work at being the favorite spinster aunt to my seven nieces and nephews with the expectation that at least one of them will look after me when I am in the rest home.
Frequent travel for work can make vacation travel feel like a chore and for years I took my vacations at home. Lately I've been trying to correct that, and have been taking better vacations lately. In 2007 it was a trip on Amtrak to CA to see the Giant Sequoias. So that botany training finally got put use. In 2008 it was the Grand Canyon (and Rt 66). This may be a 'See Michigan First' year.
