Leta's Story
Life
After graduation from Arcadia, attended Elim Bible College (NY), graduating in 1975 with a Bible Major & Christian Ed minor. Worked as a youth leader/ counselor for Jr. Highs at People's Church, Scottsdale, Az & also taught the Jr. High Bible classes for the church's private Christian School for a while. Met my husband, Bill (an architect) while I was working for Dr. Van de Wyngaerde, an orthopaedic surgeon, in Phx & we were married 12/77.
Have lived mainly in Az (Tempe, Scottsdale & most recently Tucson), but we spent a year in Malaysia on the island of Penang (1999-2000) with my husband's business. Both of our daughters, Alisha (age 29) & Carissa (age 25) got married this year within three months of each other and continue to be the treasures of my heart. Currently work for Dr. Leff, an internal medicine MD and Dr. Van Hoof, a geriatric specialist with Arizona Community Physicians.
Have been on a dance worship/ ministry team at Grace to The Nations for over 12 years, leading the group for about 6 yrs. Our last presentation was "He Is" at the wedding of one the dancers who got married this year two days after Thanksgiving. We've also been training/teaching younger girls at Grace To The Nations what it means to worship in the dance.
My dad, Dr. Robert Pettit and my brothers Ira and Ron still live in the Phoenix area. Nathan, our youngest brother died April 2000 (age 39) and our mother, Kay Pettit died May 25, 2006. Anyone who has lost a loved one knows the depth of sorrow and numbing grief that follows, but I am so thankful that as Christians we do not grieve as others who have no hope. I find great comfort and strength knowing Nathan and my mom are more alive at this moment than we are, totally whole and full of indescribable joy as they are in the very presence of...Expand for more
Jesus, the One who has loved them from the very beginning and Who now has welcomed them to live with Him in eternity.
In retrospect, I can honestly say, after walking with Jesus for over 38 years, that He has blessed me far beyond my expectations and has been, without exception, faithful and true to His Word. I'm still blown away by the intensity of His unconditional love and the wisdom of His counsel. While He never promised a life free of heartache, disappointment, testings or challenges, He did promise never to leave us or forsake us and to walk with us through each circumstance, in loving compassion, safely guiding our steps so that everything truly does work together for good because it is through those difficult times we are being conformed to His image. "But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold" (Job 23:10) With Jesus no grief is ever wasted and each joy is shared.
"You dance over me when I was unaware.
You sing all around, but I never heard the sound.
Lord, I'm amazed by You,
Lord, I'm amazed by You,
Lord, I'm amazed by You,
How You love me.
You paint the morning sky with miracles in mind,
My hope will always stand
for You hold me in Your Hand.
Lord, I'm amazed by You,
Lord, I'm amazed by You,
Lord I'm amazed by You,
How you love me.
How deep, how wide, how great
Is Your love for me.
How deep, how wide, how great
Is Your love for me.
Lord, I'm amazed by You,
Lord, I'm amazed by You,
Lord, I'm amazed by You,
How You love me
(words to one of the dances which does me in every time)
