Linda's Story

Life It's rather difficult to sit here and put my life on the screen in front of me. There has been an extreme amount of happiness and joy in my life, yet tragedy and pain has accompanied me throughout the past years. Following school and college, I moved to Anchorage, Alaska; married in 1975 and gave birth to my first son, Casey in 1980. In early 1981, following the death of my father, we returned back to northern Wisconsin and purchased a gasoline service station in Iron River. Our second son, Stephen, followed in 1985. Eventually we had to supplement our income (and health benefits), so I obtained an Executive Secretary position in 1989 at Chequamegon Telephone Cooperative. I worked there, commuting from Iron River, for 12 years. Casey eventually graduated, entered college, and unfortunately in his junior year my 26 year marriage ended. 01. At this time, the biggest tragedy in my life occured. My son Casey, a junior at UW-Stevens Point, contracted a little known fungal disease - blastomycosis, and being unable to combat the disease, he died at the age of 21. This has forever changed my life, yet I have gained a sense of compassion, a strength, and a love for life that did not exist within me before his death. My youngest son, Stephen, is now a graduate of the University of Minnesota - Duluth, and he provides the beauty and joy in my life. I am currently the Business Director in an international law firm, Greenberg Traurig, here in Albany. The job is demanding and exhilerating and I work with wonderful people. I am in a relationship with a man who shares my sense of adventure and allows me to explore who I can be. Life can be tough, yet at the age of 55 I can look back and say I have cultivated many wonderful friendships, experienced the love of a great family, and raised two extremely wonderful children.
