Linda's Story

Meet my son, Reed, on the Left, daughter, Kami and me. This was taken 2 1/2 years ago just before her wedding. I went to U of Alaska in Fairbanks from Brent, found it waaaayy too cold when it bottomed out at 70 below that winter and moved to Oregon which reminded me more of the Baguio area. I did go back to Manila for the summer of 69 and can still remember when the warmth of the sun finally penetrated my bones!! Whew! Managed to graduate in 72 then tried to make it again in Alaska, unsuccessfully---the famous pipeline opening was pending and no jobs opened up like they usually did. Worked in Oklahoma for a year for VISTA with Oklahomans for Indian Opportunity then went into the mountains of Washington, a place called Stehekin for a couple years. Met and married the father of those two kids and we moved to the Portland, Oregon area where they were born. Went back to school after teaching pre-school and trying various other ways to bring in some income, and got my degree in Nursing in 86 and shortly after got into the area of Home Care where I have been ever since. In 96, Steve decided to take an opportunity Nike offered and we went to South Korea for a couple years then to the Netherlands in 1998. Enjoyed both places very much but unfortuneately circumstances led to our separation and finally divor...Expand for more
ce around 2004. I had always felt drawn to the SW so came to Santa Fe, NM and have been here since. My son joined me here in 2008 and just got his BS in Math from UNM--now looking at possible jobs and finishing up some credits in the next 1 1/2 years for a degree in Physics. My daughter and her husband live in the Portland, OR area so visits back and forth are regular!! My favorite way to spend time is in my garden wherever I am and here in SF have enjoyed the Farmers Market and participating as possible in some of the different programs going on here---the TIme Bank for one is a very interesting idea---exchanging ones gifts and availabilities for needed help rather than money. I think of Brent and the friends of that time often---I haven't found many people who can relate to the kind of lives we had though I have met a couple. We were very lucky I feel to have the upbringing we did. Anyway, I would love to be in touch!!! Do any of you remember the young couple from Boston Univ who came to teach--I think in 67/68---his were the first Birkenstocks I'd ever seen!!! :) I have wondered about them. Also Mrs Viduya, Sra Palacios, and mrs Fallarme. If anyone knows anthing about any of them I'd love to hear.....as well as about all of YOU!!!!! MANY BIG HUGS and all the best in the coming New Year!!!!! Linda
