Linda's Story
After high school (attended El Cerrito High, then transferred to Albany High when my family moved, discovered that I needed more credits to graduate, so was in the class of '64 at El Cerrito, then only needed to attend Albany High part-time while working part-time and was in the class of '65 at Albany High), I worked at Cutter Labs in Berkeley, then left to atttend Merritt College, where I met my future husband, Mel. We lived in Chicago for two years (I had a great job as a tour guide at the Merchandise Mart), then returned to Albany and much better weather.
We bought a house out in Walnut Creek, had two boys, I worked part-time at Macy's, we moved to Clayton Valley, and finally to Glendora (LA area).
With Mel's job transfer, back again to Concord area, in Clyde. Another transfer, and a move to Loomis (Sacramento area). I found a job with Grass Vally Group up in Grass Valley, and stayed there for 10 years, through a divorce and raising the boys alone (we even lived for a while in Rough & Ready).
After being laid off, I returned to school, finally getting an AS degree from Yuba College (and was commencement speaker, and won an award for poetry . . more than I ever accom...Expand for more
plished in high school!), then returned to work, getting a job at Willow Valley Software.
In the mid-90's, struck out on my own doing contract technical writing, eventually going to work at The Money Store in midtown Sacramento. By this time, the boys were gone from home (one lives in NH and is in IT Security, the other is a civil engineer in the Navy, stationed in Italy, just returned from Dhjbouti (Africa), so I moved to midtown Sacramento, and have been here for the past 15 years.
The Money Store was bought by First Union, who then bought Wachovia, then was bought themselves by Wells Fargo. I worked in the IT group for small business lending, doing online help, policies and procedures, quick start guides, forms, and web maintenance.
I, along with all of my IT group and 95% of the division we serviced, have just been laid off. Haven't been without a full-time job since 1990, and sure can use some time off, but I'm not quite ready to retire.
I have a 2-year old grandson, and a six month old grandaughter, both of whom live in Italy.
I'd like to re-connect with my friends from both El Cerrito High and Albany High and catch up on what everyone else has been doing.
