Linda's Story
Aloha classmates! I was born in Tulare on May 10, 1949. I come from a agricultural background. My grandfather migrated from Pico in the Azore Island around 1920. He decided he would settle in California and built a home on 80 acres of land in Lemoore. He was a cattleman, dairyman and farmer. By the time I was born he had already retired. My father did not want to follow in his dad's footsteps entirely. He was a dairyman most of his life. From the time I started school I lived on a ranch seven miles West of Tulare. In 1955 I started school at Pleasantview Elementary school and in third grade transferred to the old Enterprise school. It was incorporated in 1958 into Oak Valley Elementary. I was there until I graduated in 1963. From there I attended Tulare Western High until June 1965 when we moved to the East part of Tulare. I attended Tulare Union from 1965 until 1967 when I graduated. I traveled after graduation from the rest of 1967 to the Fall of 1968. I took a few classes at COS in the Fall of 1968 and continued until 1970. They were night classes as I worked during the day for the...Expand for more
County in the Social Services unit. At that time I lived in Visalia and then back to Tulare. Out of all of the places I had visited while vacationing I enjoyed Hawaii the best. In 1972 I decided that I would try my luck there and see if I could work and live there. As my luck had it I was hired at a hotel my first week there and the rest is history. I live on the Big Island on the West Side in Kona. I attended UH Hilo twice a week at that time too and finally received my BA in education in 1975. I met my husband at UH and in 1973 we were married. We have five children, four daughters and one son who are now grown. Besides me being a mother and teacher, my husband also worked outside the home and we also have seven acres of coffee and macadamia nuts in Holualoa, West Hawaii, on the Big Island. It is our hobby, but also pays well for a hobby. We also own our own home in Keauhou Mauka (mountain side). We have been married for 36 years. Life has been good to me over the years. I hope to hear from my classmates from Tulare Western and Tulare Union. Mahalo, aloha and a hui hou (till later).
