Linda's Story

Life It feels strange writing a "bio" for people who may have known me many years ago. I guess this actually is more of an update, hopefully filling in the gaps for you since we last were together. So, to my friends from grade school, I can say that I first became a teacher at nineteen, which nowadays sounds ludicrous. High school friends may be curious to know if I ever actually married the tall blond guy who waited for me each day after school, the one who used to play in a band, and I am happy to say that I did. This July was our thirty-eighth anniversary, which amazes even me! It seems the last time that I checked my driver's license I was just 38 myself. "Children" I taught over the years and co-workers from those schools will wonder if I ever had children, if I still have cats, and if I am still toiling away in the classroom. The answers are yes to the first two questions, and no the last. I have two wonderful sons, 30 and 32, both still unmarried. Though cats have come and gone from our home over the years, I still have one underfoot. I also recently adopted an abandoned shih tzu and I absolutely love him! a, and abandoned animals quite literally come with the territory. I have taught on and off over the years, and in between time in the classroom worked in social services and in a human resources department. My last stretch of teaching lasted from 1989 until 1998, with occasional supply teaching until 2002. Since 1999, most of my free time has been spent writing under the name Linda Gallant Potts. I've done a little bit of everything - essays, non-fiction articles, poetry, short stories, flash fiction, and part of a novel. I've been published in national and local newspapers, as well as several online magazines (if you Google my name, you'll find some). Something tells me, though, that I'd be more successful if I'd focus on one genre and ignore the distractions around me. I think I need a cabin in the woods to help me really produce! Besides being busy with my personal writing, I also manage an online writing group called the Writing Bridge. Working with fellow writers from around the world is a great source of support and inspiration for me. That's me as of September 2009: content and relatively healthy, and hoping to find out what's happened in your life too.
