Linda's Story

Life I graduated from Durrett in 1971, worked for a veterinarian for a few years, got married to an "army brat" and we lived in the Radcliff/Etown area for 27 years, 3 years ago we moved to Bonnieville. It's great! No traffic, no neighbors, no noise...we love the outdoors and the country life, the wildlife. We have two children, Amanda age 24 and David age 20. David is a sophomore at Evangel University in Springfield, MO and Amanda is employed at Publishers Printing in Lebanon Jct. I worked for 18 years at Fort Knox, Civil Service. My job was abolished, and I have since worked at Hardin Memorial Hospital, then a veterinarian again, and now I am at Fort Knox National Co, where I work in the research department. The main driving force in my life is my relationship with Jesus Christ. My husband (at that time my husband to be) led me to the Lord on top of the Iriquois Lookout on Jan 27, 1975. We got married on June 21, 1975. We have had our ups and downs, but basically we have a happy, secure marriage. I LOVE pets, I have 4 cats and 3 dogs, and I would have many more if possible. We rent our house, so we are lucky to be able to have the ones we do have. I attend Calvary Assembly of God church in Etown. I teach some classes there. I went thru many years of depression. I didn't realize that is what it was, just thought that was my personality. A year ago, I started on some medication and my life has turned around completely!! What a change!!! I don't look anything like I used to look. My hair is mostly gray, I have gained over 100 pounds! Oh, I was so skinny then, and I'm fat now! I always wanted to be just right, and somewhere in there, I think in 1978 I was "just right", but I had babies, and back injuries which kept me in bed for long periods of time, as well as depression which made me eat, eat, eat....so, here I am. I have to say that I am feel a lot healthier now than I did in high school. I am still basically shy, but I'm getting over it. I think it was mostly due to a low self esteem. Well, that's about it. Not too exciting, but I have had a good life all in all. I am happy to be alive, and enjoy my family and my pets aka My Babies. My newest interest is photography. My husband is very into birding and collecting moths, and I take a lot of pictures for him. He isn't so good with the camera, but he is getting there. My husband, Rick, is a great guy. He is definitely my soul mate. He's a little strange sometimes, kind of "eccentric" but at least he's not like so many other men who spend their time watching ball games and ignoring their wives. We have fun together. I haven't seen any of my old classmates except for Steve and Mary Miller, and that is only because they are good friends with my older brother Russ Zaino. It's amazing, they haven't aged...Expand for more
a bit. I wonder how much other friends from school aged.....hmmmmmm........ School Oh, I hated school! I was so shy and had such a low self esteem....I always thought people were staring at me and talking about me behind my back. I would not go thru all of those years again for the world! I got to a point when I was in 9th grade that I thought it was not "cool" to be smart, so I quit trying. I made terrible grades that year. Isn't that dumb?? At the time, I just didn't want anything else to make me stand out. I enjoyed English. Especially the 11th grade English. I wrote a lot of poems that year. It was difficult for me because my brother was in Viet Nam and I was always so afraid I would get "the call to the office" that he was dead. It was on my mind a lot. I didn't have a whole lot of friends, but those I had were loyal, true blue friends. Unfortunately, I was suffering from depression and didn't spend time with them as I should have. I missed out on a lot of fun, I'm sure. There were several who tried their best to get me involved in church groups and such, but I wouldn't do it. I pray that God blesses all of those people. I'm sure they had something to do with my coming to Christ a few years later. I remember I was so overjoyed when we could start to wear pants to school....the girls, that is. I wore my jeans and moccassins. They were my "uniform" of that time. In fact, I still prefer jeans and a t-shirt to anything else, but they just don't make those moccassins anymore. Too bad. Workplace After school, I bummed around for a couple of years until my parents finally made me get a job. So, I went to work for Dr Sims, a veterinarian. It was great!! I have always loved animals and it was a fun job. There were some things about it that were not so fun, but mostly it was fun. I got married in 1975 and quit my job and moved to Radcliff. Then I got a job in Civil Service. (I remember one teacher, Connie Jones, telling me that I would never ever get a job in civil service...oops, sorry....you were wrong!) Anyway, I worked at Fort Knox for 18 years, then my job was abolished. I got a job at Hardin Memorial Hospital in the xray department where I was going to go to school to become an xray tech, but I injured my back moving a patient, so that ended that dream. I worked in Admitting for a few years, then decided to go back to work for Dr Sims again. I drove all the way from Radcliff to Louisville each day. It wasn't so great the second time around. Dr Sims had definitely become a major jerk, so I took it for a whole year, then my husband said to quit if I wanted to...so I did. Now I work at Fort Knox National Company in Etown. I work in the Research Department and it's a fun job, nice atmosphere. I enjoy going to work each day.
