Wow! What a challenge! How can anyone condense 60 yrs. into a paragraph ? I've had an exciting life! I married a wonderful guy - an Orthopaedic Oncologic Surgeon 2 yrs after I got my college degree from the university of Virginia, we just celebrated our 36th anniversary. I spent 5 yrs. in the Army Nurse Corps. (Washington, D.C.,Walter Reed and Letterman at The Presidio, San Francisco) Specializing in Critical Care. Then another 5 yrs in the CA National Guard working in Intensive Care and Teaching in S.F. while I earned my Masters. We waited almost 11 yrs before having children because we had plans---. Bill had to finish his residency, of course, after doing his 3 yr. required stint in the Navy (Vietnam was going on, remember?). Five yrs. of surgical residency at UCSF. After Bill's residency we bought, (sold everything, begged and borrowed $-didn't steal!) a sailboat in Finland - then lived aboard and sailed the Med for almost 2 yrs. before crossing the Atlantic to the Island of Antigua in the Caribbean BWI (using celestial navigation only). Sometimes fun - more often a nightmare in the Mediterranean! After that little sojourn Bill did a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. I worked the surgical ICU and transplant unit as well as set up their CPR training for the RNs and Docs. At the moment he is the only Specialist in SD, so it's tough as far as time off is concerned. I loved it (Minn.) there despite the freezing weather, but we opted for private practice in San Diego over the academics of Mayo Clini...Expand for more
