Lisa's Story
Life
After high school, I earned my BA in English from William Jewell College, then worked at various jobs for a few years before going to Saint Louis University for my MA. I met my husband at SLU and decided I didn't want to teach literature or writing (although I taught writing at SLU as a grad student for 3 years) and instead returned to administrative work. Over the past 8 years, my husband and I have adopted 3 dogs from the Humane Society. Last year, I decided to follow a dream and work there. I loved it! I quit in June because we were moving to Georgia, but I plan to continue doing animal welfare work in some capacity. I'm excited to see where it takes me.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing with my dogs, Abby (a Jack Russell/Dachshund mix), Zoey (a "Sheagle"), and Buster (a 12-pound beefcake of a chihuahua), and running. I started running 13 year...Expand for more
s ago and then began racing in 2002. I'll be running my 7th marathon this year. My best marathon time so far is 4:04 from the Houston Marathon in 2005. I hope to drop that by 24 minutes to qualify for Boston some day. I have run the Chicago Marathon for the past 5 years. I ran St. Louis once and Houston once. When I was in St. Louis, I would sometimes see Mrs. Merrill's name in the race results (she was my junior high language arts teacher)! We both ran the Alton Great River Road 10-miler, but I didn't run into her there. I did chance to meet Jennifer Cousins there and at the Chicago Marathon.
The photo is from an office Halloween party in 2005 -- I'm a tuxedoes tap-dancing spider. Not sure which part of my subconscious that idea came from, but there must be a spider in a tophat in one of those old cartoons, right? It was fun having 8 legs. :D
