Liz's Story

Life I have registered on both the Conestoga High School site as well as the Dublin High School Site because we moved from Paoli to Ohio when I was 13, and now I live back in the Philadelphia area. I would love to find old friends in both areas! As I said, I grew up in Paoli PA and went to Berwyn Elementary and then went on to TE Jr. High. We moved to Ohio (my mom, dad, sister Terry and me) when I was in 9th grade. Those of you from PA will remember me as "Ed" Donahey, a nickname that started when I was born (my initials E.D., stood for Elizabeth Donahey), and stayed with me all through school. When we moved to Ohio I changed my name to Liz, what new student wanted to explain why her name was Ed? I lost touch with literally every one of my friends from TE, and think a lot about many of you. I recognize many of the names from TE that graduated Conestoga in 1980. I recently came across a memory box of notes (passed in class of course, all about boys and crushes...) as well as letters and cards, many of them going away cards when I moved away. I realized how many good friends I had and what a special place TE was to me. Dublin High School was a wild time, nothing like the late 70's... then graduating in 1980, a lot of fun times, wild times, and parties that's for sure. I have many friends and co-workers that were in high school during that time, and regardless of what part of the country they lived in we all agree that times were certainly "different" back then. If you were there then you know what I mean! God forbid our children go through what we went through. Here's my bio. From Ohio I went to U. of Tennessee (Knoxville) and graduated with highest honors with a degree in Marketing. I put myself through school (and was lucky enough to get some grants and scholarships) so I worked full time and attended school too. It was a hard time but so worth it. I had many jobs, bartending, waitressing, I was even a courier for...Expand for more
DHL, and drove a delivery truck for 5 years! Upon graduating I got a fantastic job, company car was a big perk, with Armstrong World Industries (the vinyl flooring company) as a regional marketing rep. I moved a lot with this company and lived in various places in the US (Lancaster PA, Winston-Salem NC, Baltimore MD, Philly). My last transfer was to the Philly area, where I remain now. In other words I came full circle back to my roots! I now work for a company called Library Video Company as a Director in the Curriculum Division. The company is located along the Main Line in Wynnewood, PA. I actually live "across the river" in NJ, a little Victorian town with a lovely Main Street and quaint downtown. I have two beautiful girls, 4 and 3 as of July 2007. They are wonderful, smart girls who adore each other and keep us on our toes. They were both miracles and rather close together I might add, they are only 14 months apart! My husband Tom is the Fire Marshal (Batallion Chief) in the Cherry Hill NJ Fire Department. Over the years I've loved seeing how Dublin has grown and changed, to me it seems for the better. Maybe those of you still in Dublin would disagree. Although my dad died in 1987 (some of you may remember he was very ill during HS) my mom stayed in the house in Olde Sawmill until she passed away from cancer in September 2003 at 82 years old! She had a good life and is buried next to my dad in the Dublin Cemetary. Prior to that, Tom and I would visit often, and we really enjoyed the Dublin Irish Festival. Many years ago my mom was a big part of the Irish Festival through her work with the Dublin Women's Club. I really miss her, she died while I was pregnant with Regan, my second child. I hope to hear from Dubliners and Berwyn/Paoli people! Despite everything I've been through, it's made me who I am, life has given me many gifts, most especially my children, and I wouldn't change anything! Carpe Diem!
