Liza's Story
Life
child free by choice, all my babies have fur or feathers..
1976 spent in New Zealand
2 years in Europe. 1978-80.
15 years in the Civil Engineering field. I started Sci-Tech Testlab, a woman business enterprise (an engineering materials testing laboratory) in 1982. I loved it and I sold it in 1992, and never looked back.
I really wanted to practice serious skin care but wasn't sure I could make a living at in Alaska. I went for education in CA. Came back to AK, continued working as Sci-Tech.
The market in Anchorage crashed, I moved the Lab to Fairbanks (1988) to do QA for Corps of Engineering. Had the skincare thing under my belt at the time but what to do with it??
Had winters off in Fairbanks, so to make use of time, enrolled in a local hairstyling school. Was the oldest student there, ha. Maybe the oldest student they ever had! Also took my first cosmetic tattooing (permanent makeup) class at this time.
Finished the Corps jobs, moved back to Anchorage, decided I wanted to do the skincare thing fu...Expand for more
ll time and sold the Lab.
Had a license to do hair, but would I be able to make $$ doing skin?? Took more training in permanent cosmetics, but was certain there was no market in AK. Decided I would have to do hair for a while, while building up the skincare business. But hair training in Fairbanks had been mediocre at best, so I went back to CA, enrolled in Vidal Sassoon for the full-meal-deal. While I was there I took other training in skin care and permanent cosmetics.
Came back to AK, started at Shear Momentum then bought it. Also began doing cosmetic tattoo work as Wake Up with Makeup.
That whole time I really threw myself into skin care and permanent makeup, until I was finally able to say goodbye to the hair portion and concentrate on my passion!
I gifted Shear Momentum and opened my office in the Lake Otis Medical Plaza, which is were I still practice. I teach advanced perm. cos. technique throughout the US and overseas as well.
There you have it.
Now I'm tired and wishing I was a housewife. ha
