Lois's Story
After one year at Cibola, then three at Paradise Christian School, I worked at 1st National Bank; USLife Title; Cohen, Harris, Relkin & Lee (attnys); Melekas Advertising; and finally Plains Electric G&T. In 1983, I married and moved to Swaziland, southern Africa, where I worked for U.S. Agency for International Development for five years. I divorced my first husband (smart move!), and within a few months, met the man who would become my second (and hopefully final) husband and father of my two daughters. Scott is with the U.S. Dept of State, so we've lived in 7 different countries (incl. the U.S.) during our 20 years of marriage.
I've been a stay-at-home Mom since 1988, but have kept busy with volunteer projects/jobs for the different U.S.Embassies at which Scott has been assigned: Mbabane, Swaziland; Managua, Nicaragua; Doha, Qatar; Moscow, Russia; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; and Guatemala City, Guatemala.
If I get my wish, Scott will retire after our 4-5 years in the D.C. ...Expand for more
area - - and I won't have to pack-up/unpack our household for the 17th time in 21 years...
My older daughter, Victoria, is a freshman in college, and my younger daughter, Madeline, is a sophomore in high school (I got into the procreation-game when I was almost 30.).
We are cat people: Scott and I got two kittens when we were dating (early 1988), and brought them around the world with us until they passed away: Taco in November 2004, and Pavoratti in April 2007. We now have two more cats, Greta and Monkey, and I dragged them up to our summer cabin last June - - they seemed to enjoy it and would probably be okay with moving overseas if we need to go, but I get nauseous at the thought of another move... Maybe after a few years in the same place, I'll feel differently.
Feb 2013 update - Scott retired but went on contract with the DOS so we're still in the DC area. Daughters are both in college, but maybe when they're finished in 2015 we'll move to our cabin permanently.
