Lois's Story

I only went to Adams School for the one year. After that I went back to church school, and graduated from the 8th grade in 1965. High school was a number of places. First I went to the church school in creve coure, mo for one year. Next I spent 2 years in Sunnydale Academy, that is just out of Centralia, Mo. During this time I had a boyfriend by the name of Greg Declue. I was quite taken with him and wanted to marry him. My dad put a stop to that. I recently got to see him and he looks good, and was happy to see him again. I hope that we can remain friends. I returned to St Louis, Mo and went to Rosevelt High School from September through Feburary at which time I ran off and married someone by the name of Gene Williams, who I had met a couple of weeks earlier. He worked at the Chevy plant at that time. I then transferred to Central High School where I finished My Junior year. In the meantime I had two daughters that were 10 1/2 months apart. I managed to graduate in 1972. From there it has been a series of moves around the State, and the country. In 1976 I started college in Flatt River, Mo at Mineral Area College. While I was in college there I had my third and last daughter in 1978. After Several more moves around, I finally graduated college in Collegedale, Tennessee at Southern Adventist College with a BA in art and home economics, also could teach k-12. It was 1982 and at that time there were a lot of teachers comming out of college. I couldn't get a job right away. So I returned to the same college, and went to school to be a nurse. In 1985 I graduated and recieved a associate degree. I took my state boards in Nashville, Tennessee and passed them right away. My dad at the same time had a heart attack, so I returned to Missouri to be near my parents since I didn't kno...Expand for more
w how long they be around. My first and only job i had, was in Mexico, Missouri, at Audrain Medical Center. I have worked there for 23 years. Due to multiple health problems, and back surgery I lost my job. I have gotten on disability. In 1986 I divorced my First husband, and continued to attempt to raise 3 daughters by myself, which isn't easy. In 1990 I remarried, to my current husband James Vanvactor, who himself had two children he was raising on his own. He at that time worked as an LPN on the same unit I did. He also is a paramedic and took call for the ER and would transfer patients to Columbia when needed. Also he volunteers as a firefighter with Little Dixie Fire Protection District. Right now all he does is take fire call. All of the kids have families of their own. Let me list them-- Valeri, who has two boys, and newly divorced. Next is Holly, who has one daughter who is 20,and a set of triplets that are 3 years old. Two girls and a boy, and a stepson. Then there is Rhoda who has three of her own, plus a stepson. Next is Dawn who is a stepdaughter and no children, and a stepson, Alex who has one son. So I now spend most of my time visiting grandchildren. Sewing, quilting, web surfing, and jewelry making. I particularly enjoy doing wire-wrapped jewelry. I also am working on research for a book. Before my mother passed away, she told me about how some of her ancestors came to america. If I can't find any information about this person, it would make a good novel. So far I'm not having much success with it. We are planning to move sometime to our farm in Montgomery County, Mo. At this time I am unsure when it will be. Right now we have to Clean up the mess, since the farmhouse that was there burned down about 3 years ago. It was my parent's home from 1978 to 1997.
