Lorri's Story

Life All of you knew me way back then as Lorri Krenis. I lived in that big house across the street from Butterweck Florist, on the corner of Little Neck and Jerusalem Avenues. I graduated from Mepham and attended Adelphi University, where I majored in Art Education. After graduating in 1967, I got a long-overdue nose job, moved into Manhattan and started working in a public relations job (totally unrelated to my majorI was tired of the classroom..BOTH sides of the desk!) I met the guy whom I would eventually marry. He was from Long Beach, L.I. and in his first year of Law School at NYU. I began my career as an Art Teacher in January 1969, at a Junior High School in Canarsie Brooklyn. I taught 7th, 8th and 9th Graders. "My Lawyer" graduated from NYU Law School, and because the Vietnam War was in full swing, he signed up for a reserve unit. In 1970, we were married, and I became Mrs. ALbert Gorman. Our son Jonathan was born in August 1974, and we decided to raise him in the city. We bought an apartment in Manhattan, and, in all honesty, Manhattan was a great place for Jon to grow up. Lots of stimulus! When Jonathan was 6, his dad and I separated. I decided that I wanted to be readily available to my son, so I got licensed as a Real Estate Salesperson. My new career gave me the flexibility of hours and allowed me to be close to home. As a post-script...I am Facebook friends with many of my past-students from my teaching days, and I am enjoying their companionship as adults. Many of them have children who are the same age that they were when they were in my classes in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Some of them found me on Classmates.com, BTW. Al Gorman (my first husband) and I made a new commitment to each other: to always be friends, and although we divorced in 1983, we have remained close and really like one another. Jonathan attended private schools in NYC, and was accepted at Tufts University. Afterward, he attended the Commonwealth Medical College of Virginia, from which he graduated with a degree in Dentistry. He furthered his education at the Danbury Clinic at Danbury Hospital, in Connecticut ( he did a year of residency) and qualified himself to handle most aspects of Dentistry. He opened his own office and is now practicing Dentistry in Yonkers, as well as working in the Dental Clinic at Danbury Hospital . While he was at Tufts, he met his bride; After graduating from Catholic University in Washington DC, she procured a position as an attorney for the Department of Labor. . When Jon and Carolyn moved back North to Connecticut, the Labor Department created a position for her in Manhattan. They were married in March, 2005. I am currently the proud "g-ma" of Nathan, who is 8 years old. And I have a "grand-doggie, whose name is "Fribble". Back in 1989, a mutual friend fixed me up with my current husband on a blind date. He was and still is a television news reporter for Channel 11. (WPIX). I'm proud to say that he is an Emmy Award winner with 13 of those coveted statues. He is now the most senior correspondent in Manhattan in television news. If we fast-forward from 1989 10 years, he took me to Paris, and at the Jules Verne Restaurant in the Eiffel Tower, he asked me to marry him...in French (and he didn't speak any French)....but his version was pretty close! It took me 5 years to make the final commitment and marry again; it involved a lot of changes in my life, like leaving my beloved Manhattan and moving to New Jersey. So now I live on the Jersey side of the river, in Edgewater...just 4 miles from the Lincoln Tunnel. We are directly on the river with a fantastic view of the city that I love...and I work in Manhattan as well. Marvin and I were married in October 2004; living with my "newsman" has been wonderful, but it also has its challenges; While most people run AWAY from a disaster that is happening, the news-guys and gals run TOWARDS the story. (September 11th is a perfect example of that; Marvin spent 4 days at the site, reporting from there.) He has travelled to Iraq and Afghanistan four times, where he was embedded on a military base for 8 days with his cameraman. He brought a "New York Christmas to Iraq"; he had pre-arranged to have 340 Juniors cheesecakes, 300 H & H Bagels and 300 Nathans hotdogs/w/rolls shipped to the base (shipping was compliments of DHL), along wi...Expand for more
th basketballs and 2 backboards with nets, compliments of our friend Mitch Modell. He brought pre-taped "Greetings" from the Mayor, the Governor, and various celebrities. Marvin did "live" reports from the base on the morning show and on the 10 O'clock evening broadcasts; And he arranged live hook-ups with some of the military men and women on the base with their family members at home. AT&T donated 300 phone cards...each one with 20-minutes free talk-time, so the people in the unit that he was embedded with could connect with their families back home. Marvin has covered over 30,000 stories in his iconic career; he has occupied a front-row seat to History. He has interviewed five Presidents, he marched with Martin Luther King in Mississippi; he spent a night in the Amityville House and attended a seance with his cameraman; he is ONE of only TWO reporters who was given the opportunity to interview Abe Zapruder (the man who filmed the ONLY footage of the Kennedy assassination), he interviewed David Berkowitz (Son of Sam,) and so many others too numerous to mention. But he still says that his favorite assignment was being with those military men and women...shaking their hands..and .hearing them say "you really made a difference in our Christmas. We weren't forgotten." My life with Marvin has been a whirlwind of interesting events and people. I love the excitement of schmoozing with Rudy Giuliani (who knows me by my first name), as well as dining with Mayor Bloomberg, Ray Kelly, having lunch with Donald Trump and his family, shaking hands with Bill Clinton, attending events where Marvin is the emcee and being seated at the same table as Pierce Brosnan, and Paula Abdul...and inviting various celebrities to our home for dinner. I was thrilled to meet and spend time with Walter Cronkite, Diana Williams, Katie Couric, Mereith Viera, the BIG THREE Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, and Peter Jennings....I have learned that most of the celebrities who we treasure as our friends are down-to-earth people off screen and just as normal as all of us. Tony Orlando (Tie a Yellow Ribbon, Knock 3 Times, Candida, etc) is a very close friend of ours. OMG....one of my favorite people!!!!!! I still collect Penguins (I started collecting them when I was in High School); I love them because they are like comical little people!! I have amassed a collection of about 300 of them over the years. I am active on Facebook (if any of you want to "friend" me; Years ago, one of my Facebook friends asked me to say a prayer for her, as she was dying from inhaling fiberglass at a construction site. I asked her if it was okay to post a prayer on my timeline, so other friends of mine could say prayers for her as well. I wound up with over 300 "comments" and prayers for her. Unfortunately, she passed away, but my "prayer vigil" idea still lives on. Other people started contacting me, asking for prayers for their Mother or Father, or sister, or family member or friend. So my Prayer Vigils have grown, and today I have over 100 committed "Earth Angels", on my team, who are on "standby" to say prayers for people who request them. People believe in the POWER OF PRAYER. I am still in the Real Estate business. I have a dual-association Broker's license, which means that I am with an agency in Manhattan as well as an agency in Westchester. I can broker any deal anywhere in New York State, but I prefer the Manhattan and Westchester markets. So, If you are an "empty-nester" and want to move into NYC, (or out of it?), contact me; If you live in Westchester and want to sell, downsize, or buy (for yourselves or for your children or grandchildren), please contact me. I have been in the real estate business since 1980. It's a challenging business, but I love that it's a "people business". In Manhattan, I specialize in Co-ops, COndo's, townhouses ,lofts, and rentals. In Westchester, the same thing. I would LOVE TO RE-CONNECT WITH MY FELLOW-GRADS...so if and when you have time, please friend me on Facebook. and private message me there. We are not permitted to add our email addresses here on this site, unfortunately. One last comment....I love MY YANKEES and MY METS!!!! I am (even though I live on the Western shore of the Hudson River) a confirmed NEW YORKER!!!!! **** BE SAFE....AND BE HEALTHY, EVERYONE. With love and so many happy memories, Lorri ,
