Louise's Story
Life
Am currently clerk of the SHS Alumni Association. This is a volunteer position, as is working on the membership comittee to keep our "Big Book" up to date. There are about 10,000 Springfield Alumni.
Have 2 children, Arthur born 1973 and Alice in 1979. My grandson, Slayton was born 3/2000 and Riley born 9/02 to Arthur and Sarah. Kira Helen joined them in May of 2005. I work as a community support staff person, taking developmentally disabled folks out every day for activities WE take for granted. Have been in the field of Human Services since '82. Have taken one lady out for past 15 years.
School
Because I lived in Baltimore, VT., I rode to Springfield with "Tommy" who worked at Bryants. I would arrive at school by 7am. It was a long day as sometimes he worked overtime til 5. We had to be waiting on the Adna Brown steps or he'd leave without us.
Changing from a one room schoolhouse to SHS was Traumatic!
All those stairs, twists, and turns kept me lost for weeks!
I was very shy in school and didn't have much to say. (oh, how that has changed) I enjoyed chorus...Expand for more
and Miss Perrotta.
Actually, I think I liked all my teachers.
Workplace
The day after Graduation in 1960 I started in the purchasing dept. of Bryant's. I worked there 2 years. I married Arthur Peale in 1962. We moved to Willamansett, MA where he was stationed at Westover AFB. I worked from '62 to '67 at the Spalding sporting goods factory in accounting then production control.
Arthur got shipped to the Philippines in Feb of '67. I joined him there in Oct. '67. I became a full time homemaker. We left the Philippines in Jan of '69, stationed first in New Britain CT, Rochester, NY and Offut AFB Nebraska. We had a son, Arthur. Arthur, husband, retired from the military in 1976 and we came home to VT. We had a daughter, Alice in '79.
A life change necessitated rejoining the workforce in Oct of 1982 at Hanson Court, a nursing home. I then worked In NH for DSSC as a program assistant, akin to what I do now for LSI.
Have been an Avon Lady for 25 years
I also enjoy strumming my guitar and singing.
That brings us up to the present! Have no plans to retire just yet.
