Louise's Story
Life
I went to four different elementary schools, three of them in one year (grade 7). I started at Roberts Creek Elementary, then went to Upper Fraser Elementary. After that I was at Carlin Elementary for all of one week before we moved again. I finished elementary school at Dutch Lake Elementary. After Clearwater Secondary, I was at Barriere Secondary from 1970-1972, and then Armstrong Secondary from 1972-1973 where I graduated. I moved all over BC, Burton, Hedley, Greenwood, Winlaw, Hope, Chilliwack, and back to my home town of Gibsons, where I now live. I worked various jobs at the various places I lived, from library assistant, book store clerk, typist for a newspaper, and at one point I had my own typing/bookkeeping service. ack with an honours diploma in Office Administration in 1993. I worked as a deputy returning officer at a couple of elections. I inherited my Dad's asthma, so I'm on disability now, but I have been doing advocacy for the last nine years. It's very rewarding helping people fight the system. I am a breast cancer survivor of eight years and counting. As of June 2011, I'm still single, still living with my sister, who is also my best friend. I volunteer at the local Salvation Army office tallying the grocery receipts people donate. It feels good to help others. I also volunteer with the local chapter of the BC Schizophrenia Society. We at the BCSS help people with any kind of mental illness. I'm recovered from depression and bipolar myself. I love reaching out to help others.
