After 35 years and two other countries, I moved back to Oregon in 2012. My professional life included being an administrator, manager, director, journalist and professor. After doing a boring secretarial course at Salem Tech (now Chemeketa Community College), I went to work full time, got married at 19, had a baby at 24, left my husband and moved to Seattle in 1977 to attend the University of Washington, where I earned a BA in English and an MA in Geography. From there, Portland became home and I worked in middle management at Oregon Health Sciences University (who knew?). The next move was to go for a doctorate at Simon Fraser University near Vancouver, BC.
