lynda's Story

Hi, all! Where did the all the years go since high school? I have been living in New Hampshire since November of 1989--twenty years after graduating in 1969. Life had been a whirlwind of changes to that point, but I have been lucky to have had many experiences in that 20 years before New Hampshire. After graduating from high school, my mom and father split so that my mother, siblings and I all moved back East to Rhode Island where my mom was born. None of us like Rhode Island (no offense to anyone born and/or raised there)! What some of you might not have known about me when in high school is that we had already moved a lot before I attended Chula Vista Junior High. My father was a career Navy man, stationed in San Diego. Let's see if I can remember the order of the places that I have lived: Born in Rhode Island, moved to Richmond, VA where my sister Laura was born, moved to Pensacola, Florida where my brother Eric was born and then back to Norfolk, Virgina. (There might have been another stay in Florida in the mix there.) From there we moved to Japan where we lived for four years until the summer of 1963 when we moved to San Diego. After graduation, I lived in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Texas, Germany for four years, North Carolina, Virgina, Arizona and finally settled down in New Hampshire. Keene is a beautiful small city that I now call home. I work in a large corporation as a Supervisor of Receivables in a finance function. I have worked for the same company for the past 19 years and am nearing my 20th anniversary. Before that I had a number of jobs to accommodate the moves to different areas of the country. I co-owned a dress shop while living in Houston, TX and also co-owned a...Expand for more
yarn shop here in Keene while working my current job. Retail is great as a sole owner; partners tend to complicate the joy of owning a small business. I would like to own a small-scale, online business when I retire that will incorporate all of the things that I am most passionate about. I have two cats--Miss Ellie Mae and Mr. Maxwell. Miss Ellie Mae and I took our first "selfie" together on Thanksgiving Day. I have a camera with a timer that gave me just enough time to pick up Ellie and try to get her to face the camera. She was having no part of it. Neither one of us like the camera. Someday when I retire, I am going to adopt an older dog from a shelter or rescue. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE animals and am saddened by the number of homeless animals in shelters and rescues across our country. I am lucky to live in a part of the country where a lot of shelters are "no kill" facilities. Because of this, many animals from other parts of the country, including California, are transported to New England to save their little lives. There are many things that I like to do, so I have a lot of hobbies and am grateful to have some very nice and close friends. I am really looking forward to retirement so that I have more time to do those things that make me happiest. Every now and then I check into Classmates just to see who has joined since the last time I took a look. In some cases, I remember your faces and in others just the names. It would be nice if I could put them together. Does anyone know why there is not a yearbook available for 1969? Well, that is all for now. I hope all of you who celebrate Thanksgiving had a wonderful day with family and friends and are enjoying the holiday season.
