Lynda's Story
Life
A 20 year marriage produced 2 incredibly wonderful sons, Chris & Josh. Four years after moving to Alaska, I found myself single--for the first time since I was 19! Five years later I married a truly special man, James, who is the love of my life; my soulmate. James and I love mountains--I thought Mt. Rainier was (and is) so beautiful and then I flew into Anchorage and was smitten with all the incredible mountain ranges. We live on the mountain above Anchorage and we love to watch sunsets over the Alaska Range, the inlet and the city. We hike in the mountains behind our house and take road trips to explore new Alaskan delights. James and I love to travel to new places and look forward to an upcoming trip to Galapagos Island. We return as often as we can to Hawaii, Seattle, Portland, OR, and Surprise, AZ. As far as my career is concerned, I worked for 17 years as an Ophthalmic Assitant and for the last 5-1/2 years as a Medical Assistant in physiatry (pain management and rehabilitation). I had never aspired to work in the medical field, but shortly after starting my first job I realized I had found my niche in life. The doctor I work for calls me altruistic--my dream is to spend retirement doing medical mission work in the U.S. and abroad. ed her talents to help me through a difficult time. I'll never forget her! She had an incredible smile, faith in my future, and showed me that I am a worthwhile person. She instilled hope in me and I'm forever grateful to her. My mission now is looking for ways to reach out and make a difference in someone else's life (from a simple smile and a listening ear to the bigger gifts of time and money). The most humble career takes on new meaning when you see it as an opportunity to help others along the way. Am I always successful at what I do? No, but there are people out there who take time to turn me around again and get me back on the right track. In turn, it is the least I can do for others. Who has made an impact on your life? Whose life are you making an impact on? It is an equal playing field--all that is required is to take the time to see the needs of others and then act on that need. One of my husband's favorite sayings is that time is given in equal portion to all--24 hours every day to every one. The only variable is how you choose to spend your time. They say a penny saved is a penny earned, but not so with time. Time is made to be spent and the richest return comes from investing in other people. My net worth no longer consists solely of assets minus liabilities, but is calculated by how well I use my time to make an impact on the lives around me. How is your net worth today?
