Lynda's Story
Life
I am finally "back home," after spending 2 years in NJ, 2 years in CT and one year in Bangor. Greg and I are now living in Litchfield, Maine.
As for my family - my two sons are grown with families of their own now. Jonathan & Sarah Bates live in Bangor and have given me three beautiful grandchildren, Alaina, Elizabeth, and Nikolas. Bill & Andrea Bates have a beautiful daughter, Isabella Grace, born in February '07. They kive in Durham NC with their dog, Dexter and 6 cats.
College
I was definitely a "late bloomer" when it came to my education. I don't have a lot of fond memories of my high school years-maybe that is why I waited so long to go to college. But when I did finally go, it was a truly amazing 4 years. And I found out my grandmother had been right-I DO have a brain!
I attended The University of Maine at Augusta (Maine) from 1997-2001. What started as an idea to "keep me busy" first changed to an Associate degree in General Studies. By the time I received th...Expand for more
at degree ('00) I was accepted into the BA program. I finished all the requirements for the Honors Program for both degrees.
The Honors Program is probably what kept me going! I attended and gave presentations at the National Collegiate Honors Council in Orlando ('99) and Washington, DC ('00). I was also a presenter at the University of Maine System Honors Weekend. I finally learned how to "speak in public."
I worked at UMA in the Advising Center and as a Faculty Assistant. I also worked on the school newsletter, Moose Tracks, as a writer, photographer and Copy Editor. I met many amazing people at UMA, both students and faculty. What a wonderful four years!
Workplace
After spending many years as a housewife, I went to work at CMP on Halloween 1989. I worked one year on the CSS project and then went back to CSS for the enhancements in May '93. I was laid off during the first of the big company cutbacks in January '94. Three years later I decided to "go back to school."
