Lynda's Story

LYNDA K. TYSON, Ph.D. Dr. Lynda K. Tyson retired in 2004 after serving 20 years as an US Army Military Intelligence Cryptologist. Two of her most memorable duty stations include the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, MD and NATO, Mons, Belgium. Other assignments include, Ft Irwin CA, Augsburg, Germany, and Pensacola, FL. This Arkansas native proudly wore Airborne and Air Assault wings and was one of the first females to complete the rigorous Repel Masters Course in AP Hill, VA. Dr. Tyson volunteered in the US and overseas in schools, mental health facilities, hospitals, and training centers with those with developmental delays, mental retardation, mental illness, and substance abuse addictions. She also volunteered as a mentor for ¿high risk¿ youth in Maryland and most recently in Pensacola, FL . Her work in the community led to her being awarded the NAACP Roy Wilkins Award, the Governor of Maryland Community Service Award, and the US Army Meritorious Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. From 2004 to 2007, Dr. Tyson served as the director of Lakeview Center¿s Adult Day Training (ADT) Supported Employment Phase II Program. In that capacity she provided individualized treatment plans for individuals 18, years or older with a DSM-IV TR Mental Health diagnosis in addition to a developmental disability. The ADT program stresses training in the activities of daily living, self-advocacy, pre-employment skills, adaptive and social skills with a special emphasis on assisting individuals to successfully make the transition from psychiatric inpatient settings to community facilities. In March of 2007, Dr. Tyson became the founding member and owner of MM & T Mental Health & Behavior Services, LLC. The letters MM are Mi Mi, which is the nickname that the family gave her mother and the T is Tyson. The primary mission of MM & T is to provide mental health and behavioral services for individuals, families, and groups by addressing maladaptive behaviors, and mental/emotional concerns. MM & T¿s intent is to promote optimum mental and behavioral health through individualized support and behavior plans. The scope of the services offered at MM& T range from psycho-social and behavior assessments to interventions and reactive strategies. care and monthly progress reports. Group sessions are available in Life Skills, Anger and Stress Management Techniques, and help with Grief and Mourning. Mental Health: Provide outpatient mental health services for individuals with mental health concerns/diagnosis, developmental disability and; individuals with substance abuse concerns. The intent of these services is to address and treat mental and emotional disorders and to promote optimum mental health. The scope of these services range from psycho-social assessment and ongoing assessments related to patient condition and/or plan of care. Other responsibilities include diagnosis, treatment, discharge planning and psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, groups, and crisis assessment and intervention. Behavior Services: Provide outpatient behavior modification therapy for individuals with substance abuse and/or behavioral disorders. Provide training and consultation in the areas of addiction prevention, educational and adaptive living strategies, challenging behaviors, and staff management. The intent of these services is to help people learn new behaviors, increase or reduce existing behaviors, and teach individuals when to use specific behaviors in specific instances. The scope of these services ranges from helping individuals to identify problems related to their addiction; addressing challenging behaviors of an individual person or group to; changing the behavior of an entire organization or community. Other responsibilities include behavior analysis services to, families, group homes, schools, mental health agencies, hospitals, industrial and business settings, and other agencies working with individuals who require behavioral training and/or consultation. Dr. Tyson is a state of Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor a Certified Mental Health Professional, Board Certified in Professional Counseling, & National Certified Counselor as determined and established by the National Board for Certified Counselors, INC. She completed the academic requirements and met the experience supervision requirements for Behavior Analyst and is expected to complete the academic requirements for Board Certification in 2007. She is married to SFC (RET) Clarence L. Tyson of Americus, GA. They have two sons Alphonso and ¿CJ¿, two daughters, Tyshika and Angel, and five grandchildren.
