Lynn Burley:  

I went off to the University of Akron after highschool and majored in English (big surprise!). Worked at Sears in Plumbing & Heating at night and did high school teaching by day. That wasn't for me after all, so I went back to Akron and got my Master's in English with a specialization in Rhetoric & Composition. Meanwhile, I got married to Bill Burley and we lived in Cuyahoga Falls until the summer of 1992 when we moved to West Lafayette, IN so that I could pursue a PhD in Linguistics at Purdue University. Six years later, I took a tenure-track job in the Writing Department at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, AR, about 25 miles from Little Rock. I am now an Associate Professor of Linguistics and this fall will see the fruits of my work as we start the first major in Linguistics in Arkansas. Besides work, my husband and I travel a lot (although maybe not so much this year), some of it for school--I got to teach in Maastricht, The Netherlands in the summe of 2002 and in Florence, Italy in the summer of 2007 as well as go to conferences in Germany and Brussels. We took a European cruise with freinds in 2006 to celebrate Bill's retirement and have taken beach vacations in Cancun, Aruba, Curacao, and St. Martin's as well as a half dozen cruises in the Carribbean--love cruising!
