Lynne's Story

After graduating from Pacific Shores, I worked for Body Glove Wet Suits in Hermosa Beach as their custom wetsuit builder. In 1978, I married had two sons, and moved to Garden Grove, CA. After my divorce in 1986, I left the beach area and moved to Idaho, where I raised my two sons and began my career with the Forest Service. When the dog died and the kids left home I took to the road. In 2003, I ended up back in California working for the Riverside Forest Fire Laboratory. I worked on the San Bernardino, Angles, Cleveland and Los Padres National Forests setting up research stations to study fire effects on hydrology (once a water baby, always a water baby). In 2004 I accepted a position with the Forest Service in Utah. My titles are described as: Hydrologic Technician (Water Right Specialist), Forest Protection Officer, Forest Fire-Logistics/Ground Support and Burned Area Emergency Responder. I LOVE MY WORK! 2009 holds lots of promise for adventure. I've already been canyoneering, camping and fishing, whitewater rafting, kayaking and visited my friends and family in Salmon, ID. I was on the Hemit, Yucaipa and Station fires in California. Christmas was a sad time for my family when my brother Mike Isham passed away Dec. 22 from complications of liver cancer. 2010 is off to a great start. I headed to Ogden, UT for 3 months to work in the Regional Office assisting the Utah/Nevada/California Water Rights Coordinator. Four weeks after returning from Ogden I received a Fire Assignment in Fairbanks, Alaska. Fire season picked up and I was assigned to the Scott Mountain fire in McKenzie Bridge, OR and the Oak Flat fire in Merlin, OR. Upon returning home I was reassigned to the Twitchell fire on the Fishlake National Forest in Richfield, UT. I've managed some local kayaking trips to Big and Barney Lakes in what's been a very busy summer season. Missoula, MT has promise for new beginnings, the Forest Service Water Rights Team is looking for a new Team Member ( I'm currently waiting t...Expand for more
o hear if I've been selected for the position). As the Employees Associations, Activities Director I just held the Forest Christmas party with a Dutch oven dinner, door prizes and White Elephant gift exchange. Appearing as Santa's lead elf the kids received a bag full of goodies after sharing their Christmas wishes with me. Happy Holidays to all. 2011 Wahoo, I'm headed to Missoula, MT where I've accepted the Regional Water Rights Team position. I'll be leaving Utah the end of March to start my newest adventure. April, I've arrived! My new position offers field and office responsibilities. I can't wait to head outdoors to get to know the rivers, streams and forests of Montana. I've found the area to be a water babies dream come true, and I can't wait for my kayak to arrive! October, I'm still sleeping on an air mattress it's been 6.5 months...bummer! I'm in the process of buying a house, and can't wait to move in!! I had a great summer here and really enjoyed working on the Flathead NF near Glacier, Beaverhead-Dearlodge NF in Dillion and Lolo NF here in Missoula. What a great move!!! December, I'm finally in my new home and sleeping on my new bed...YAHOO!!! 2012 January, I'm settled in my new house now and find my job challenging and exciting. Missoula (Mazoola) is a great place to live, it reminds me of the beach area...many moons ago. Sadly we lost my brother Chris Isham on June 12 from complications of diabetes. 2018 I've accepted another promotion with the Water Team here in Montana that will likely keep me here until I retire. I still enjoy camping in the great outdoors and have added paddleboarding the past few summers. 2019 there's only 4.5 years left until I retire from the USDA Forest Service, so I've begun preparing for the next phase of my life in retirement as a metalsmith, you can watch my progress at Quenched Designs on fb. 4/2023 I've retired from the Forest Service and plan on staying in Missoula, MT for now.
