Marcia's Story
Life
Well, here's 47 years in a nutshell. I worked as a clerk-typist for a couple of years after graduation, then married Rudy Hebein. Together we had two children, Rudy, now 45, and Chrissy, now 42. We divorced in 1968 and for the next five years I worked at the GE/Hotpoint Plant in Milwaukee, assembling dishwashers. In 1973 I became a student at MATC in the Community Ed. Program and transferred To UW-Milwaukee in 1974. I graduated with a BS degree in 1978 and a MS degree in 1980, both in Speech/Language Pathology. During that time I worked various part-time jobs while raising my kids and going to school. Though money was scarce, I loved being a student and believe this was one of the best periods of my life.
After working for the Milwaukee Public School System for four years, I met my future second husband, Ron Sorensen. In the summer of 1984, with one child married and the other in college, Ron and I took off, touring the West and settling in Escondido, CA. In the summer of 1985 while coming back to WI and Ill for a visit, we stopped over at friends in Grand Junction, CO and I submitted my resume to the local school district. We moved to Grand Junction and I began working for the school district as a speech/language pathologist in the fall of '85. During the next 10 years Ron and I traveled,...Expand for more
backpacked, camped throughout the Southwest, Canada and, on a few occasions, Mexico. Both my kids and their families found their way to Grand Junction and still remain here.
Ron and I divorced in 1995 and remain friendly. At that time I was grandma to Paula, Lindsey and Whitney. Both my kids started second families and now I have two other darling grandaughters, Gracie, 5, and Alison, 3. I retired two years ago but am currently rehired by the GJ school district and work two days/week. I'm a Hospice volunteer for a minimum of four hours/week, and I babysit for the little grandaughters a bunch. I own my home and am currently petless.
I continue to hike, occasionally camp, and enjoy participating in Dances of Universal Peace and other community events of that nature. Staying healthy is important to me, so diet, excercise and living as stress-free as I can (sometimes quite a challange) are priorities, although I'm not a fanatic about any of them. I currently am a student of Esoteric Studies at Sancta Sophia Seminary, Tahlequah, OK where I attend classes two or three times a year. I consider myself a life-long learner, whether through studies, travel, reading, relationships, or just every-day activities. All considered, I've had a good, ever-changing life so far, and hope to continue it all for awhile.
