Marcia's Story
Life
I am a lawyer for the federal government. I am married and have three kids, ages 13, 15 and 18 (all boys). I have a shih tzu/toy poodle cross dog. I live in Saskatoon. I travel extensively with my job and with my family, mostly within Canada. I still compete at the national level in both badminton and tennis. I plan to go to the World Master's Games in Sydney, Australia in 2009. Jan and I are still very close. On our 50th birthdays, Geri, Patti, Jan, Ann and I met in Banff for a birthday reunion. We still keep in touch and several of us are meeting at the end of October once again in Banff. We hope to have more classmates join us to celebrate our 55th birthdays.
School
High school was a lot of fun. We partied a lot in those days. I have great memories of the parties, the dances, the other students, and the Sunbeam boys. I don't recall much about school itself. I wasn't in to studying at all in highschool (which drove my parents crazy...particularly because my father was a school principal). After that, it was all about the parties and dances. I recall being kicked out of one dance after being caught on the back stairs with one of the Sunbeam boys. I suspect we had even more fun after we w...Expand for more
ere kicked out. I recall sneaking out in the middle of the night to go partying with all our friends who also were sneaking out. All my memories of high school (other than one or two embarrassing ones...and even those seem funny to me now) are great.
College
U. of S. was rather dull in comparison to highschool. With respect to my first few years, I was more into getting good grades and getting scholarships...particularly to keep the costs down since I had to pay for it all myself.
Law School was alot more fun. We got to know everyone pretty well. We studied together and we partied together. One could never quite relax and enjoy the experience however as there were always those grades to try to maintain. The job situation was very competitive in the 1980's.
Workplace
After highschool, I attended business college at Walter Murray school. I worked as a secretary for 4 years at Co-op Trust. I went to University at the U of S and got my BA and then my LL.B. I articled with a small firm and then joined a larger firm in Saskatoon where I worked for 6 years. I left to join 3 women in practice where I spent the next 10 years. I joined the federal government in May of 2006 where I have been ever since.
