Margaret's Story
Life
Married High School sweetheart, living in Seacoast area of NH since 1972. Sing in a 200 member women's choral group, avid golfer and traveler (most recently spent 2 weeks in Croatia and Slovenia). Retired CFO of a large not for profit organization, now manage my husband's law firm. One son (Porsche car salesman), one daughter-in-law (hospital pharmacist); 4 cats, Volunteer for a couple of not for profits that interest me. I love to fuse glass for art purposes, not just jewelry. Am currently helping care for my eldest sister who has cancer and is being served by Seacoast Hospice.
School
I left Kennett after my sophomore year when my Dad died to attend Deering High in Portland. What a shock. It was so much bigger and had so many different activities. My life changed a lot. At Kennett I knew lots of my classmates, at Deering I was lost. My Fischer's English classes were always among my favorite memories. ys thought of Kennett as my graduating class, but I haven't seen anyone or been back since I left. Maybe the old memories are the best and if I went back I'd have other memories that weren't as good.
College
All my college experience was unique. I attended University of Maine at Portland, and lived at home. I was the only girl in the school of business - my first class was economics in a lecture hall with about 200 freshmen 199 men and me! I remember classes in the fall of 67 when the red sox were playing in the world series and professors had radios going with ear plugs, and would write score changes on the board as the innings changed! I was the only female member (and later President) of the Business Fraternity at USM. My marriage to my high school sweetie in 1970 postponed my graduation as he went to BC; so we moved to Boston for two years to let him finish his work. I returned to get my degree in Accounting and I entered the MBA program but never finished it. I eventually got a Master's in Public Administration from UNH. But not until Alfie (my son) graduated from Traip in Kittery.
