Margaret's Story

Life After graduating from Emporia High School, I attended Emporia State University and continued with Marching, Pep, and Concert Bands (those were good days as Good Bands are like family) and was fortunate enough to have had a summer internship at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. I spent some post graduate time at the University of Florida in Paleobotany and Geology before obtaining my Masters in Computer Mapping and Graduate Geospatial Analysis Certificate from Emporia State University. During that time I met a great group of friends through the Maranatha Choir in Gainesville, FL. Such an awesome group to have been a part of, keep up the good work, I miss you and the performances. I am currently the one in charge of day to day tasks with the fossils in the Paleobotany and Micropaleontology Collections at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and having a blast making new friends at McFarlin UMC. School Moving around while growing up made for a lot of schools attended in Illinois (Sunny Hill Elem.), Massachusetts (Liberty Elem.; Lincoln Elem.; Armory Street Elem.), Kansas (Lowther M.S.; Emporia H.S.). It always made for interesting stories to tell of different kids and areas of the country. The memories that stand out are numerous but towards the top would have to be a 5th grade trip to Sturbrige Village, MA and the Band trips in high school especially the trip to Washington D.C my senior year. ege I had a blast with the organizations that I was involved with while and undergraduate and graduate student (Earth Science Club, Geology Club, Sigma Gamma Epsilon, American Chemical Society Student Affiliate, SPURS Honor Society, Tau Beta Sigma, Senior Class Council). Oh the road trips and stories I could tell ... was that a hamburger you grabbed, I think not! or how about the control over CLASS-C business and officers due to an election night voter force, or perhaps the all-nighter on relationship advice. Workplace You could say working in museums just grew on me. As I was working on my bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences from Emporia State University I got a part-time student job helping with the Geology Museum (now the Johnston Geology Museum). That led to a Kirtlandia Adopt-A-Student internship at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in the Paleobotany Collection before I graduated. I then attending the University of Florida to study Paleobotany and Geology an had the opportunity to work at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Paleobotany. However, I decided that I wanted to get a Masters in Computer Mapping at Emporia State University and obtain a Graduate Geospatial Analysis Certificate. Now that I have completed my masters and certificate, I am working as the Collection Manager for the Paleobotany and Micropaleontology Collections at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and having a blast!
