Margaret's Story
I'm a happy retired school teacher who was very surprised at how my life turned out.
In those books we got to record school memories I wrote that I wanted to become a teacher, get married and have a big family.
Well I became a teacher after doing my student teaching in San Paulo and got a job in Lorain. I truly loved my job and just when I thought I wouldn't get married (I was 27) I met this wonderful man while working part time at a resturant. We got married three weeks before our tenth class reunion.
We hoped to start a family right away, but nothing happened. We spent the next 9 years going through tests and surgeries and then as we were about to try invitro, I bought a brass crib and wound up pregnant the next month. Unfortunately she was to be our only one.
Just as we thought we had the world in our hands, my husband had an aortic annuersym and passed away Mother's Day, May 10th,1997. Then three months later I had back surgery and was flat on my back for three months.
So then I became a single parent of a 10 year old and learned a whole nother way of life. Then when she was a sophomore, I had to have back surgery again. A Ballerina I'll never be, because I can't stand on my toes anymore, but I can walk, Thank God.
I went back to school after retiring and was on my way to becoming a psychologist, when my frie...Expand for more
nd needed help with her mother and then one of my daughter's friends asked me to watch her baby while she was at work. It has been one of the most joyous times in my life. Watching every little change and growth has been amazing. It is also bittersweet because I know now what I missed by being a working mom.
The one teacher I would like to see again would be Mr. Kuershbaum (Chemistry) because he always had faith in me.
My two favorite things are a mother and child necklace my husband gave me our last Christmas together and the ring my daughter gave me for Mother's Day ten years later that she had
inscribed "Ten Years Strong".
I hope they remember me as happy and caring.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right.
I cut eight period study hall and got caught.
I lived in Brazil while doing my student teaching, then back to Parma, Lorain when I first got my job, Bay Village when I met my Husband, and finally Avon Lake when we had our child.
Becoming a widow so early in life.
My first crush wound up on thw West Coast.
If I had one do over I wouldn't get buried so deep in my own grief that I forgot to help my daughter deal with hers more.
My first kiss was at a birthday party in the third grade and the boy's name was Skippy Yoder.
