Marianne's Story
As I reflect back on the last 40 years + years. It is hard to believe so much time has passed since the carefree days of high school. What has occurred for me? Life has been a very interesting journey. My mother died at the age of 45 while I was a senior in nursing school. As the oldest, I had to make many family decisions, as my parents were divorced and my father was no longer in the picture. After graduation I worked in NJ in order to provide my sister with a place to live while she was in nursing school, then I moved back to PA and worked in Lankenau Hospital for five years. In 1978 I decided to do something really radical and joined the Air Force. I was stationed at Travis AFB, between San Fran and Sacramento. I met my husband, then an AF pilot, and we married in 1979. Both John and I got out of the AF by 1980. In 1981 and 1983 we had two sons, they are now 41 and 39. Johns career has taken us to Tampa, Fl, Wycoff, NJ, Charlotte, NC, and now we've retired!. My nursing career was very challenging and rewarding. When my children were young, I went back to school, got my bachelors degree and then went on for a Masters degree in healthcare management. As we moved from coast to coast, I was Director of Nursing at a university in Tampa, Fl to Director of Clinical Services.
In our retirement, we have traveled the world! Mostly via cruises. Our adventure type trips have taken us to Antarctica, Ice land, Galapagos, and many, many more traditional parts of the world.
Our sons are doing well. Eric, our eldest is a neurosurgeon. He served in the Army for 6 years following his 7 year residency. He's finishing a one year fellowship in neurosurgical oncology. He has 5 kids and will reside in Connecticut in July.
Ryan is a career Army officer, Lt. Colonel and is currently in the Bavarian region of Germany. Next year they will be stationed in El Pasco, Tx. He and his wife have two sons.
