Marilyn's Story
I hope classmates remember I was an energetic kid who always was willing to be a worker. I put up posters for Pep Club, worked back stage for productions, decorated for dances, ran the mimeograph for everyone, helped in the office, served as an active member or officer of clubs and played in the orchestra(viola).
One time I was on a ladder in jeans(not worn to school in those days)and a shirt working on the stage lights when the drapes opened to find all the athletes in the auditorium for a meeting and me looking like a racoon up on that ladder hanging from the light bar! So embarrassing.
I was always a bit funny and a clown to make up for the fact I was a plain looking and skinny girl. It worked. I had lots of friends and lots of fun. I loved East High especially my senior year.
I have never forgotten Pat Phillips and his Chevy. We would go to Foster Freeze for lunch with Phil Young, Ed St. Amour, Mike Griffin and others.
I still write to Mr. Armstrong( now 95 and in Santa Barbara) our history teacher, and have never forgotten Miss Watters and her kindness to us girls. ...Expand for more
I never forgot Noel Pierce and Nick Molhook "allowing" me to help them work on an old Model A in Nick's garage. They "let" me clean the tapets with gasoline. So fun! Then there was a really nice grown up dinner party at Noel's house followed by one at my house which Ed St. Amour and Don Farquhar came to with dates.
I was close friends with Judy Miller then and we even had matching blue striped, button down shirts we wore the same day to school now and then. In those days it wasn't "geeky" to do so. Then I was close to Bruce Detrick who promised to be my attorney after college to get me out of any scraps I got into to. Miss him.
Then there was Jim Houck who I saw as my intellectual friend. He was always so directed and mature.I talked over problems with Jim.
One of my very first fiends at EBHS my freshman year was Don Wilbanks who was kind to a kid who looked 11 years old and helped me meet others and feel welcomed to a new town and school. We were friends until graduation.
I have lots of stories but also have a Facebook page where school photos are in album. Look there.
