Marjorie's Story
I disliked (read that HATED) school ever since my first day in kindergarten, when my mother took me to a strange building, led me into a room full of kids I had never seen before and a strange woman and LEFT ME THERE. That was a traumatic experience for someone with mild autism (Asperger's). I still don't really like being around people, which is why I love what I do for a living, driving a big truck for almost 27 years. (No high heels, no pantyhose!) Quite a change from my original "career path" (light bookkeeping and secretarial work), but so much more fun and rewarding. I've driven through 44 of the 48 contiguous states and parts of Canada and seen some absolutely awesome sunrises and fascinating creatures. Sights that I will always remember are ...Expand for more
a bald eagle walking on a frozen river in Montana and rivers flowing backward on the east coast during high tide.
I sold my truck in 2005 and hauled mail for 4 years and for the past 11 years have been hauling auto parts to stores in the Portland area. The other drivers think I'm crazy because I talk to my truck and my pallet jack, but, hey! I talk to my plants, so why not my truck?
Now, in our "golden years", my little sister and I live together with two cats, my 17 year old calico and our 7 year old black cat, who is alternately a little hellion and a cuddler.
I've had some great experiences and some very bad experiences in my life, but I'm happy with where I am in my life now and I'm waiting for my hair to go white so that I can dye it purple!
