Mark A. 's Story

I have been married for forty years to my wonderful wife Lalani Deann McDonald McKay. We met through a church youth group when we were teens and we have three grown children, our daughter, Heather, and our two sons, Sean and Christopher. We now have a new addition to our family. Our first grandchild, Michael Brenden McKay was born on December 28, 2010. We are proud grandparents and love this precious little guy. He is just wonderful. I have a loving daughter-in-law, the former Dana Marie Connally who has been married to my son Sean for six years now and is a wonderful addition to our family. My wife works as a Dietary Technician, Food Services Worker, and is a Certified Pastry Chef. She has an awesome talent and passion for cooking and has been employed by the Los Angeles Unified School District for 33 years. She enjoys being of service to others, cares and loves helping children by having the opportunity to be needed. My son Sean is seeking to build a career with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and has a talent for Electronics. Dana is graduating on May 29, 2014 as a Pharmacy Technician. She is taking a couse as a Emergency Medical Technician and will graduate in February 2010. Both want to be of help to others, and make a difference in the lives of the people in their community. Both my wife Dee and Dana additionally work as care providers for the County of Los Angeles, In Home Supportive Services which serves to provide assistance to disabled and handicapped persons with special needs. My Dad served as a Sergeant on the Los Angeles Police Department for thirty five years, and in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician. Both my grandfathers served with the U.S. Army during World War 2. My Mother was a Florist and Floral Designer, and owned her own business for many years. My Grandmother and Great Aunt owned a Wedding and Catering company for forty years addition to their regular employment. We were close as a family and I well remember the love, devotion, care and compassion that was in our home. This was extended to all who entered as they were tireless in their ability to make everyone feel welcome. I enjoy being a grandparent. I always look forward to spending time with my grandchildren, helping them with the development of their character, and watching them grow into fine people. Two of our children have learning disabilities, are developmentally delayed with special needs. These are two children whom we love and are always a joy to be around. They have brought a unique spirit of love and affection, adding much happiness to our home. We are a close family and enjoy doing things together when we can. We like many things, and enjoy the outdoors and traveling. I have a Commercial Class A license and have had the opportunity to travel in twenty seven states thus far. It's a great way to see the country and meet some nice people alo...Expand for more
ng the way. I retired from the United States Navy in the capacity of a Hospital Corpsman and Clinical Physician Assistant. I served in Search and Rescue as a In-flight Medical Technician, and with the United States Marine Corps as Fleet Marine Force Corpsman. I am trained as a Rescue Swimmer and Medical Rescue Diver. I had the opportunity to serve on many ships, and have enjoyed a awesome and rewarding experience in my Naval service. I also served in the United States Air Force as a Military Police Officer and in the capacity of a K-9 Handler working with security dogs. My fondest memories are of the special and dedicated friends I had the pleasure of associating with during the course of my military service. These have been long and lasting relationships through the years, and have been enjoyable and rewarding. I am currently certified as a Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic and Inflight Medical Technician. I belong to the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and Emergency Paramedics, and the American Association of Trauma Specialists. I am a CPR and Advanced First Aid and Emergency Care Instructor for the American Red Cross. I am attending school to obtain my BSN in Nursing at West Coast University. I enjoy helping people in need. My goal is to become a Flight Nurse. If I can be of service to someone, or ease and calm their fears, help to improve the quality of their life, this makes my day! Compassionate and loving care are so important, it enriches both your life and those whom you aid in service. I want to become a Flight Nurse and continue to study and work in Emergency Medicine and Trauma by continually developing my skills and adding to my medical knowledge. Being a friend is so important, it helps you enjoy the gifts of life as you discover yourself. Live life in the moment, make it special, so it will be completely yours and unforgettable. Giving of ones self, and having a true love for another, are the qualities of a close and wonderful friend. They strengthen the soul, give life to the spirit, and will endure in the heart forever. I am a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. I enjoy participating in these veteran organizations with many fine people with whom I share a common bond. These fine veterans are true patriots and share the passion, pride, commitment, and dedication in preserving the spirit and traditions of our great nation! Honor the memory of our veterans and remember what they have sacrificed for your freedom. Thank them for their duty and service. They will appreciate it more than you will know. I enjoy reading and poetry writing and I am writing a book of poems based on my personal and life experiences. I hope to have it published someday. I will dedicate it to the memories of family and close friends whose love and support will endure forever.
