Mark's Story
It seems like a lifetime ago I finished high school in North Van back in 1971. I held a number of jobs over the next 2 years: garbage man, logger, railway construction, truck and trailer mechanic. My earnings paid for my aviation training.
In 1973 I was looking for adventure, so left North Van for the Prairies and after bouncing around a bit, settled in Calgary. Over the next 9 years I had a number of careers, some good, some not so good.: construction worker, chemical plant worker, flight instructor, charter pilot. I even found time to get married. Then came the National Energy Program, courtesy of Trudeau Sr. and his merry band of Liberal idiots and everything went down the toilet. t was time for a new career.
In 1983 I enrolled in Geophysics at the U of C, graduating in '87 with a B.Sc. I spent the next 30 years working in Oil and Gas Exploration and loved it - challenging environments to work in, with bright colleagues from around the globe. I've been fortunate to work all over Western Canada and in parts of the US and SE Asia, involved in a number of very interesting and challenging projects.
I retired from O & G in 2017, and my wife retired in 2018 so it is now time for the next phase of our lives. Our Calgary home has been sold and we have moved to the South Surrey / White Rock area. I will not miss the -30C Winter weather, but will miss the wide open skies, Rocky Mountains and the great friends and colleagues.
Cheers. Mark
