Mark's Story
Workplace
During High School I worked at The Commercial and Savings Bank in Winchester, Virginia then located on Main Street prior to its transformation to the walking mall. I left banking in 1977 and went to work for the Winchester Police Department as a communications dispatcher for Police and Fire. On 4/1/79 I started as a Police Patrolman for the City of Winchester. Prior to starting in uniform I had applied for a position with the Department of State Police for the Commonwealth of Virginia. On 1/1/80 I started as a State Police Trooper. I was assigned to the Second Division in area 12 which is Fauquire County. The area office is in Warrenton. I stayed at that duty post for 6 years and then transfered back to Winchester. I continued enforcing the law in Winchester as a Trooper until October of 1988 when I left to take a job as the Director of Risk Management and Safety with Allegheny Freight Lines Incorporated in Winchester. Doubled my salary and eliminated all the headaches that came with law enforcement. I stayed there 2 years until the company went into bankruptcy. After this job being abolished I decided to run our family business with my wife which we started in 1987. We had founded Aberdeen Acres Pet Care Center and Animal Doctors Hospital. I helped my wife Cheryl run the business until I made a decision to found my own private detective agency. In 1991 I founded Justice Incorporated/Associated Private Investigators. In 1996 we sold the pet care center which allowed us to semi-retire. I continued to run the detective agency until 2003 at which time I went to work for my friend George Barlow as the Director of Human Reso...Expand for more
urces for General Services of Virginia Incorporated. I currently hold this position and operate my own business as this workplace bio is written. My web site address can't be posted due to this sites rules but you can find it by browsing Justice Incorporated Winchester Virginia. As of 07/01/2015 we are opening a store on the downtown mall where Grey & Eddy was located years ago next to Bells Clothing. The name of the store will be the Old Town Antique Emporium. My wife is now on the board of zoning appeals for the City of Winchester and a board member of South End Fire Company. In August of 2018 my employer was acquired by a larger company and had I elected to stay I would have been required to move to Atlanta Georgia. That was out of the question for me because of a number of reasons. I still had a farm to take care of, my elderly mother was a consideration, and I’m just too fond of the Shenandoah Valley. So I stayed employed to keep Health insurance by going to work for Valley Health Systems. I worked a year and a half as a laboratory courier and left when I was eligible for social Security benefits. Nearly died in February 2019 from a pulmonary embolism, but after a thrombolysis and a 10 day hospital stay I made it through that. Then came COVID-19 which I fought for a couple of weeks recovering from that after an infusion. It’s now June 2021 and I’m now recovering from shoulder surgery in my rotor cuff. Getting old sucks. Sold the farm and all of my rental properties and now doing nothing but running my own business which I do at my own pace. Hoping to do some traveling and then maybe some volunteer work for hospice next year.
