I started out working for the county of San Diego right out of high school and then working for Cal Trans (State of California) as a highway/landscape worker. I loved the hard labor and working outdoors. Then after state layoffs in the mid 80s I started selling Life Insurance. It lasted for a couple of years.
During this time I connected with a co-worker and we started a band together. This led to other bands and trying to make a living as a musician. I did many jobs but settled as a sports official because it allowed me to work minimal hours and concentrate on my music.
I decided in 1990 to go to Musician's Institute in LA after my band in San Diego broke up. It was the best experience of my life and a great year of learning.
I then made a big mistake and moved to Oregon. I suffered there for 8 years singing with blues bands and hating it. I also picked up 3 other sports to officiate and worked year round at that. I did have a few good experiences but most of them entailed me leaving the state. I went to Greenland for a month with some friends I met at school. We played at "The Top of the World Club". I also went to Dutch Harbor, Alaska and worked in a club for a month as a DJ.
In 1996 I started hosting Karaoke to pay...Expand for more
the bills and was asked to DJ a couple of parties. This led me into a new career as a DJ. I found I could make more money doing this as opposed to being in a band.
My life changed drastically after my mother died in 1998 and I took a vacation to Florida. I decided to move there with a friend in 1999 and quickly started working. Between the DJing and the officiating I was doing pretty good and enjoying life.
I took a job with an entertainment company in 2002 and my career soared. I started getting more jobs on my own than with the company and eventually I was let go. This was the best thing that could have happened to me as I was getting a lot of referral work.
I decided to get back to my singing roots and became a singing DJ. This moved me into an exclusive club. I now do between 5 and 10 events a week. I do a variety show at a resort in Ft. Lauderdale every week and entertain as a DJ/MC, singer, gamesmaster, and Karaoke host.
In 2003 I was able to make my living solely as an entertainer. A goal that I had made for myself when I first started. I still officiate lacrosse to stay in shape.
I am happily single, never married with no kids, love living in Florida and the heat!! How can life be bad when you are spending your life at parties!!
