Mark's Story
Life
Hi folks,
My Âthen shot was taken a full 7 years after high school. I was in Acapulco on my honeymoon. I donÂt have any high school shots scanned, but IÂll look around. My Ânow shot was taken while living in New Jersey. IÂm on the shore at Ocean City.

After high school, I started at University of Illinois in Architecture. My interest in music was pulling at me though. In fact my roommate, Ken Carlbourg (studying Musicology), made more of an impression than the Architecture program. While I loved architectural design, after hitting three miserably bad instructors at U of I in the same semester, I dropped out. Then I worked to save some money and moved down near Carbondale hoping to get closer to a viable music scene. In the end, I fused my passions for visual and audio creative pursuits by getting a degree in Photography and Filmmaking from SIU. During college I played in a band (Breathless) and became very interested in Audio Engineering and sound synthesis.
After moving to Seattle in 1980, wanting to understand sound technology, I went back to school for electronics and computers. After working in that industry for a few years I forme...Expand for more
d a digital audio products company with some other guys (Spectral Synthesis - later just called Spectral). We worked our brains out and finally sold the company in 1996 to Euphonix. I worked as a product manager for the Euphonix and got to meet lots of great musicians and audio engineers in studios all around the world.
At the end of the 90s my then-wife and I decided to go in separate directions. Big change after roughly 20 years. Not long after, Euphonix and I also parted ways. Not wanting more of the business grind I started working as a contract teacher, writer, and consultant. Another big change. I also found a new partner, Dee. She came to Seattle from New Mexico to be with me, and I followed her to New Jersey when her job took her there. Now weÂre back on (very near) the west coast in Medford Oregon.
My hobbies are reading, movies, ocean kayaking, hiking, and tennis. Ocean kayaking is not very convenient in this area, but IÂm happy to say, IÂm playing tennis more than I have in years.
I think it's great to hear from long lost college and high school chums. Even if we weren't best of buddies, don't hesitate to drop me a note.
