Mark Dowling:  

Updated January 27, 2010 BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH I retired from the position of Superintendent of the Roosevelt School District #66 on July 1, 2009. My wife and I purchased a home with a couple of acres in northern San Diego County. We live just outside Oceanside. Our horses and birds prefer the climate here to the blistering heat of Arizona. We too love the area. Here is a brief summary of my life. I was born in Bloomington, Indiana, on April 7, 1950. My father, Leo R. Dowling, was the Dean of International Students at Indiana University. My mother, Margot Rachael Dowling taught French for years at University High School, and completed her career as the chair of the French Department of the Bloomington North High School. I attended Saint Charles Elementary School and University High School in Bloomington, Indiana. I attended University School for high school. During my freshman year only I participated in the sports of football, gymnastics, and golf. I attended Indiana University of Bloomington, where I received a Bachelors of Science degree with a major in elementary education and a minor in biology. During my freshman year at Indiana University, I was a member of the soccer team. After graduation I entered the Divine Light Mission for four years of study in meditation. My first year of teaching occurred in a one-room schoolhouse in Needmore, Indiana. It was an experience that I will never forget. I moved to Ashland, Oregon with my wife, and our three children, Daniel, Thea, and Patrick.
