Mark's Story
This is Mr.Overstreet, School Counselor at Belvedere from 1993 - 2008. I was a teacher at Malabar Elem. and came with my 6th grade students, when Belvedere changed to a middle school, as a School Counselor. I loved teaching and found counselor as another "calling". The first year was horrible. I expected students to do ask I asked of them. My son, Carlos, and my daughter, Erika, attended school at Belvedere. They are now at UC Davis and plan to live up North. I didn't plan to stay so long but after they went to high school I only had five more years to go, so... I must say that I did an awful lot of activities at Belvedere and I know that I had a positive affect on many, many student. Because Carlos and Erika went there, I was overly involved in clubs and activities, trying to make Belvedere's environment safe and civil. My memories with the Boy and Girl Scouts will last ...Expand for more
me forever. I was working on my Marriage and Family Therapy License and that added to my skills as a counselor. Middle school can be a hard place to be a counselor. I found a balance by working with students in crises, those with behavior problems and the gifted and talented. Now in 2010, I find myself semi-retired but working for a non-profit organization that has me working at Belvedere developing a STEM(Science, Technology,Engineering, and Math) school environment. I'm waiting for my wife, Rosa, to retire in a few years (Malabar Elem. teacher) so we can move up North. I meet exstudents all of the time, even in Mexico and Yosimite and Nevada. I have a lot to say,but I will leave you with this.
"I did what I wanted to do in live, there isn't much more to a person could hope for (regarding a career).
Be good, do good. Be honest, respectful, kind, responsible, trustworthy.
