Mark's Story
Life
I was born in Colunbus, Ohio and lived in Gahanna for 15 years. We moved to West Virginia after Freshman year and I finished high school there. I took 2 years off after OHHS and worked for Theatre West Virginia and a few other places. In 1986, I began my studies at Concord College and graduated with a B.A in Commercial art. I decided to try drinking and drugging as a lifestyle and when that fell apart in 1996 and I hit rock-bottom, I decided to listen to my friends advice and make some changes. I have a wonderful clean and sober life now that I could have never imagined. If anyone reading this needs to make a similar change, e-mail me. I've been there.
School
I attended Royal Manor Elementary and can still remember my favorite teacher, Miss Churches...she always reminded me of Marlo Thomas.
I went to Gahanna Middle School West, and found adolesence difficult there. When I was in 6th grade my home-room teacher. Mr. Rick Glenn, decided to pick me up and slam me against a locker in the hallway. Can you say child-abuser? I hope he eventually got what wa...Expand for more
s coming to him. Now that I'm 6' 4", and 245 lbs of muscle...wanna go another round, Rick?
I spent one year at Gahanna Lincoln High School. Then we moved to West Virginia and I finished at Oak Hill High School. I made some of my best friends there.
College
I started college in 1986 and finished in 1992. I studied Commercial Art/ advertising, Theatre and Marketing. I would love to connect with my old Alpha Psi Omega buds and my dormmates in Sarvay Hall. I ran the Newman Center for the last 2 years of college.
I have lost touch with good friends like Kevin Powers, Sheila Braswell, Adrienne Mullen and Janet (Opie) Richmond. If anybody knows how to get in touch with them...please let me know.
Workplace
Boy, have I worked a lot of jobs! It was all in that continuing drama of finding myself. Artist, actor, teacher, merchandiser, therapist, coach.....lots of hats.
Well, I finally found myself...and all the hats that fit. I finally like where I am at. I work full time for The National Geographic Society and I love it here.
