Mark's Story
Dear Classmates,
The Short Story:
Starting at the start, I was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA and attended schools as follows: East Silver Spring Elementary School, Silver Spring Intermediate School, Highland View Elementary School (During the days around the baby boon it seemed as if some of my classmates and I played "musical schools."), Eastern Suburban Junior High School, Montgomery Blair High School, and The Bullis School. Graduating from Bullis in 1962, I entered the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) at Annapolis from which I graduated in 1966. Since then, "continuing education" continues. :-)
During "Plebe Summer," 1962, my family moved to Ojai, California, USA where I met my wife to be, Johnnie. Johnnie and I became instant best friends on our first ("blind") date, and were married at Annapolis USNA on graduation day. From there to here, I visited or worked in [Johnnie has accompanied me on most of these adventures. :-)] 48 of 50 U.S. states and over 30 countries on 4 continents. For the past 9 years we have been living in Vienna, Austria. [Austria, not Australia. The saying goes, "There are no kangaroos in Austria.]

nd on the street. A common thread exists: People are people everywhere, and many thirst for health, peace, good relations with others, and honest reward for honest effort.
Along the way Johnnie and I have had 6 children which include 1 set of twins: Jeannie, Mark II, John, Robert, Rebecca, and Michael. Just to make sure life has not been too boring, Robert (one of the twins -- John & Robert) has autism. Robert has taught us volumes on love, empathy, patience, and humor.
From the USNA I entered the Navy nuclear power program and attained the position of Engineer Officer on a nuclear powered submarine. From the Navy, I entered the commercial nuclear community, earned a Senior Reactor Operator's License, served in that community in a number of other leadership and management positions at Nuclear Power Plants and other organizations, served with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and served with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria.
In my "retirement" I consult in nuclear and non-nuclear fields. In addition to nuclear activities, my activities include teaching, public speaking, writing, supporting translating, culture, safety culture, and (a passion) photography -- all in a very interesting and stimulating spectrum of forums.
Best regards,
Mark
