Mark's Story

Life I moved to Seattle in 1991 and eventually went back to school in pursuit of a new career direction in 1994. Working part time I graduated from the University of Washington in 1998 with a degree in psychology including a year of advanced studies. In 1998 I began working as a Mental Health Specialist working with people experiencing acute psychotic events. After hospitals, I worked in residential settings with the chronic/persisently mentally ill. Now I work as a case manager at a satelite service site in adult intensive outpatient care. I am currently pursuing my Master of Counseling Psychology degree while working full time. Well....that's my brief update...for now Military Viet Nam Vet. In country. Up the rivers. Navy. Percussion granades for swimmers in the water thrown ....well, you wouldn't believe how many per day if I told you. Tracers in the night fire. Napam in the distance. Water snakes. Beautiful evening skies. Seven months without seeing females. Being where we aren't supposed to be. Imagine the rest on your own. We...Expand for more
were just kids with the power of life and death. Shameful. War is unhealthy for children and other living things. We servered our country and received rejection in return. How do you think we should have turned out when we came home. I was honorably discharged. I got lost. I was lost. There is so much I don't remember. It wasn't a fun ride for many years. Trials and errors, and trials. Woke up this mornin. Things were looking bad. Seem like total silence was the only friend I had. A bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down....and won....it was 12 O'Clock before I realized I was having no fun. Aw..but fortunately I had the key to escape reality. And you could see me in the morning, with and illegal smile. It didn't cost very much, but it last a long while. But please tell me man, I didn't kill anyone. I was just trying to have me some fun..........Through all these years the only ones who have stayed with me are my mom and my sister and another person, or so it seems. But I made my bed. So I sleep in it. I'm just a human.
