Mark's Story

Life From HS, I got an AS in Electronics, then went into the Navy and worked on F/A-18 Hornets in California til '92. I then got out and got a BS in CIS in a year (and was 3rd in my class) and got a job with IBM, but released due to IBM's cutbacks in '93. I worked for a few other computer companies, and finally landed a job as Senior Network Engineer for the USPS. I was with them almost 10 years, but got laid off 3/2004. I got another Sr Network Engineer job in Lakeland. I've traveled all over the US and Puerto Rico doing network upgrades, installations, and crisis recovery of critical servers. I'm currently living back in Ridge Manor, FL; and I don't plan on ever leaving Florida again (Unless I go overseas {But it has to be warm!}). Since I've graduated, I've lived in Va, Ca, Nv, Tn, Nc, and all over Florida. My biggest hobby is travelling. When I was young, I spent 2 summers travelling to every state except Hawaii and Alaska. Since HS I've gone to the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Cancun, Jamaica, Playa Del Carmen, France - Drove from Paris all the way down to the French Riviera and stayed in an 800+ year old castle that I got to explore every room! I held a document in my hand from 1462 that still had the wax stamp on it!)I've done the double decker bus tour in London while on a 7 hour layover. Been on a safari spanning Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda (Where I saw Dian Fossey's actual gorilla group {climbing 4000 meters up a mountain & paying $250 for the guide}), and saw penguins, wales, seals, birds, sites, and flora in South Africa. I went to Egypt, saw the Giza pyramids in Cairo, Valley of...Expand for more
the Queens & Kings, Queen Hatchupsuit (sp) tombs in Luxor, and then took a cruise down the Nile going to a bunch of different tombs (Isis, etc) along the way down to Aswan. Then went to Alexandria, Egypt and saw a bunch more stuff. I even saw the house I lived in when I was between 2-5 years old. My father had been working for the government in NAMRU3 (Navy Army Medical Research Unit #3) doing research on viruses and how they replicated through all different kinds of life forms. He actually found 3 new viruses that got his name in some books.. I also had to see what Amsterdam was like.. It took a day each to do the Rembrandt and Van Gogh museaums. And the coffee was really good, too.. :) In 2004; I started in Prague, Czech Rep. then went via EuroRail to Vienna, Austria; then Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples (and the ruins of the city of Pompei which is just south of Naples), Italy; then Budapest, Hungary, then traveled through the Transylvanian region of Romania and followed the southern portion of the Danube Delta to the black sea where I stayed a week in a fishing village. BTW.. In Romania, pot is actually a weed. It grows everywhere on the sides of the road, in peoples yards, everywhere! Really weird! My sport these days is skydiving.. I've skydived in 4 different countries, 12 different states, and 9 different places right here in Florida.. I also sail, hike, camp, swim, and dive. Sometimes I still run, but most of the time on a treadmill to keep my knees from getting any worse.. There just isn't enough time in this short life to do the things I still want to do!!! I also went to Brazil in 2006.
