Marla's Story
Life
Currently living in North Plains, OR. Looking for work as an elementary or substitute teacher. Here's to hope and faith!
School
Graduating Class of 1993 at Forest Grove High School, seems like it just happened yesterday! Wow! Where does the time fly? Most of those years were happy, if not a little zany for me. I remember skipping down the halls with my friends Mesha Ennis and Jennifer Larson singing the songs of Tears For Fears (Shout! Shout! Let it all out!)or heaven forbid, NKOTB (how many of you remember NKOTB?!)! What carefree days!
There were several teachers that inspired me. They not only inspired me to learn, read, and write as much as I could (thank you Ms. Bramwell!) but they taught me how to be a good person (thanks Mrs. Boles!) and
to never give up on my dreams.
If I could do it high school all over again, I would. Not now of course! But if I could go back, I would. I would work harder not be to shy and so damn judgemental (I remember not liking certain folks because they were in the "IN/POPULAR" crowd. What a bunch of bollocks! People are people baby, no matter how much hairspray you use or where you buy your clothes!)!

y. Little did I know at the time that these first poems would be the beginning of a wonderful writing career...I've had three poems published to date! However, I have not been writing within the last 5 or so years due to college (that saps all of your creative endeavors!)! I am hoping to get inspired and put pen to paper soon. I am also thinking about trying to write some short stories or something a little more romantic and fanciful.
College
I received my Bachelors in Writing and Literature at George Fox University. I worked my tail off and earned my Masters degree in Teaching in a year, at Western Oregon University. I also went to Eastern Oregon University and earned my elementary teaching certification.
Workplace
It seems I've worn many hats in the workplace. I use to do clerical work for temp agencies, but found that very unfulfilling. I've been an AmeriCorps volunteer for two years (one of those years was spent at Neil Armstrong Middle School in Forest Grove), an 8th grade Language Arts teacher (that didn't last long), and now I am a part time substitute teacher.
If I'm going to work as a teacher somewhere, I need to have supportive colleagues, administration, and faith to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
